Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

355ml can from beer deluxe. Pours a dark/copper orange with small head. Aromas of citrus, floral and grapefruit. Taste is heavily driven by bitter hops with a citrus aftertaste. Pretty good! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours orangey amber with good beige head. Very clear. Aroma is predominantly malt with a hint of hop and metallic tones. Taste is dank hops, slightly foresty but not piney. Good carbonation and average mouth feel. Finish is sweet with a touch of honey and very little bitterness.

Bottle at Navneløs concert at Jazzhouse. Medium-bodied, very drinkable, ultimately a hoppier version of a traditional English IPA. Brooklyn is really getting their standard beers out at non-beer bars and venues, which is a welcome relief from the pale lager syndrome, but compared to other of their beers (Sorachi Ace saison!) it is pretty average.

Restrained aroma in a gold pour. Hop forward balance with light fruity body and sustained bitter finish. Nice - but nothing to write home about.

pours a slightly cloudy orange with average head and carbonation. The aroma is sweet. Tangerines, buttered popcorn, a little bit of yeast. The flavor backs the sweetness down just a little in favor of lemony hops and a dry finish.

355 ml. bottle. 17/12/2015 bottled. Lightly hazy oily amber orange, little head. Nose is bitter harsh oily pine resin, low fruity qualities hops with substantial malt base, grainy caramel & dark bread malts. Taste is bitter herbal oily pine resin & flowers with herbal caramel & toffee malts, bitter oily tea, earl grey, light vanilla sweetness in the back. Meltier than you average IPA (it is not super fresh), tad aggressive but it suits it well. I definitely get the English connection / deScription. Tastes a bit like a mix between Brooklyn & Goose Island Goose IPA. Not your typical USA IPA que the English thing (it is more English inspired than anything classical or modern Britisch) but I rather like it. Between this, their Lager & magnificent Sorachi Ace, this brewery has a very solid standard line-up I get their popularity even if I didn’t care at all for Black Chocolate Stout.
