Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

12 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Opaque brownish-orange color. Medium white head which dissipates quickly with no lacing. Very citrus-y, floral scent. Similar taste, though not as strong as the aroma, hoppy with a touch of malt. Smooth, crisp feel with good amount of carbonation. Overall, a good beer, though far from the best IPA I’ve tried.

When east beats west ...

Beautiful light brown colour. Has a light caramel flavour. I was hoping for a more fruity taste.

Bottle in Brussels. Nice orange body with thin head. Nose is floral, citrus and hops. Taste is maltier, with skunkiness. And some caramel. Bitter in the finish.

Clear orange body, medium white head. Aroma of citrus, orange peal and light caramel notes. Flavour of citrus, orange, light caramel notes. Bitterness in the background. Medium bitter and dry finish. Not an hop bomb but quite good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
