Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Wheatgerm nose with little hop presence. Deep amber color, foamy head. Taste was rich grains, wheatgerm, some hop presence behind it. Very balanced all around.

A fine lil’ ditty from Brooklyn, bright copper stew capped by white foam. A healthy blasting of honey and caramel malts matched with spicy herbal and floral friends frolic t’wards your nasalway. The aroma precedes the the complimentary bittersweet taste quite well and a chewy body with a bit of prickle to the carbonation doesn’t hurt either. A nice sweet floral and tropical taste is left with a citrus sharpness balancing the act.

This beer looked good as it pours an amber with a massive frothy head, but in the aroma I noticed some cheese mixed with floral hops, and pine. Tasted of caramel, toffee, light pine, and light cheese as well. Maybe I got an infected one, but it was too cheesy. Had a light body with average carbonation.

Sampled from a bottle at O’Leary’s at Gardermoen. Not a great place for a quiet beer - hot, noisy and very busy. The beer is an amber gold colour with a firm white head. Lots of sweet malts and fruit in the aroma. The taste is complex with hints of fruit (apples and plums) and pine resin. Very nice bitterness from the hops, giving a very good long finish. This is a really nice Pale Ale combining sweet malts and fruity flavours with a pleasant hoppy bitterness.

Robe tirant vers l’ambré, au nez également, avec des notes de caramel. En bouche on sent le côté houblonné et épicé, avec une belle l’amertume. Toutefois sans substance, elle est assez maigre et manque de corps.

Mint. I’m getting a ton of mint on the nose. I have never had an IPA that was like this. It’s interesting. I literally swear I’m smelling fresh mint. Very fresh and pleasant. It’s really nice like I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m really enjoying the citrus and pine taste. It’s not a hop bomb but it’s not weak. It’s just a really solid IPA. I will definitely be trying more Brooklyn beers, this one was phenomenal. Cheers!

This was a surprisingly complex IPA from Brooklyn. Tons of dark fruit flavors more reminiscent of a strong or Belgian ale. Nice notes of licorice and a bit warming; dark cherry and plum/raisin too. Pours a dark golden with a medium head. Part of a Brooklyn sampler 12-pack.
