Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Light amber color with little head. Hoppy aroma with a whiff of malt. Flavor is hoppy but not very citrusy. Smooth going down but you can still tell that it is an IPA.

Bottle, 355 ml from Vrutak, Zagreb. Pours amber with small head. Light fruit and hoppy, caramel malty. Was a bit of a letdown for me because I expected a hop punch characteristic for american IPAs. Ok, so it’s an EIPA, but not very exciting or memorable brew.

Bottle. Light copper with thick white head. Slightly floral hop aroma is strong. Drying hop mouthfeel. Alcohol is balanced with slightly fruity bitterness. Decent finish. A solid ipa.

From tap at the Horeca Expo in Ghent. Deep and clear ’old gold’ colour under a somewhat loose (certainly for the style), yet stable, snow white head. Aroma obviously very hoppy (dry-hopping) and citrussy, grassy, rosewater, some caramel, pine needles, pineapple, peach, apple; taste of exotic fruits, flowery, perfumey, honeyish malt backbone, smooth, medium carbo, long peppery and citrussy hop finish, dry and sticky, pine resin. Well balanced and flawless.

Geruchlich leicht hopfig, kaum Frucht.

A fine lil’ ditty from Brooklyn, bright copper stew capped by white foam. A healthy blasting of honey and caramel malts matched with spicy herbal and floral friends frolic t’wards your nasalway. The aroma precedes the the complimentary bittersweet taste quite well and a chewy body with a bit of prickle to the carbonation doesn’t hurt either. A nice sweet floral and tropical taste is left with a citrus sharpness balancing the act.

This beer looked good as it pours an amber with a massive frothy head, but in the aroma I noticed some cheese mixed with floral hops, and pine. Tasted of caramel, toffee, light pine, and light cheese as well. Maybe I got an infected one, but it was too cheesy. Had a light body with average carbonation.

Sweet, hoppy, a little piney. Body is medium, flavor is mild. Finish is a bit dry. Overall not too bad. A little alcohol comes through.

Sampled from a bottle at O’Leary’s at Gardermoen. Not a great place for a quiet beer - hot, noisy and very busy. The beer is an amber gold colour with a firm white head. Lots of sweet malts and fruit in the aroma. The taste is complex with hints of fruit (apples and plums) and pine resin. Very nice bitterness from the hops, giving a very good long finish. This is a really nice Pale Ale combining sweet malts and fruity flavours with a pleasant hoppy bitterness.
