Commercial Description:
January 2008 release of the Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve series. Brooklyn Extra Brune is a Belgian-style dark abbey ale, brewed in the style developed by Belgium’s Trappist monasteries. Its rich, plumy, raisiny flavors are derived not only from Belgian yeasts, but also from imported Belgian dark “candi” sugar syrup. This syrup is ultra-caramelized, lending both flavor and color to this copper-brown beer. The yeast gives the beer a fruity/spicy complexity, which starts slightly sweet on the palate, but dries into the finish. This is a perfect beer for winter foods – game meats, lamb, stews, and rich cheeses. Malts: European Pilsner malt, Belgian “Special B”. Additional sugars: Belgian Dark Candi Hops: German Perle OG: 19.2° Plato ABV: 8.5%

Pours a dark chestnut brown with thin off white head. Pleasant aroma of dark fruit, chocolate maltiness and candi sugar. Very smooth quaffable beer with lots of dark fruit (prune, raisin, plum, etc.) balancing out the chocolate malts, caramel and candi sugar. Very good!

On tap @ Monster B’s in Stamford. Strong aromas of banana and initial flavors of a complex hefe. However, as the pint continues, mild butterscotch undertones prevail.

Draft. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, plum and some roasted malt, a good presence of belgian yeast and candi sugar. These traits last well into the finish, which dries and leaves behind a mild etoh warming.

Capital Ale House pairing with Garrett Oliver 05/15/08. Clear dark red with no head. Spicey hops, caramel and roast malts with a spicey fruity yeast character and nice spicey belgian phenolics. Notes of dark candi sugar and carmelization.
