Most beer was once smoky and we think smoke is still delicious. Brooklyn Fire & Ice is a robust porter that wraps beechwood smoke around a silky core of oatmeal and roasted malts. Wood is cut in the beechwood forests surrounding Bamberg, Germany, and our maltsters use it to dry their smoked malts, which form the basis of this beer. Together with a blend of roasted malts, it creates a beer that is gently smoky and beguilingly chocolaty, with notes of coffee and caramel.

On tap @ The Anderson. Deep dark robust porter with think dirty white head. chocolate, licorice, smoke. First sip doesn’t tell much, but after 5mins it warms in the back of mouth.long lingering roasted toast after taste. Smokeness is subtle and not overpowering. Chocolate and burnt wood warm the palate. Best in a chalice. Broooooklyn!!

On tap @ La Fine Mousse. Dark reddish-brown with a small persistent creamy beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of smoke, peated notes, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel and light vanilla. Taste is moderately smoke with peat, chocolate, coffee, caramel and vanilla. Light acidic presence. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Decent smoked beer. The light acidity in the taste is a little off, but otherwise it’s a solid well-balance beer.

Aroma: Dry, woody smoke with a light powdering of cocoa. Appearance: garnet black with a light skin of tan head. Flavor: Moderate woody smoke up front; smoke centric throughout. A little cocoa makes it’s way through, but it’s very hushed; smoke and cocoa come up a bit more toward finish. Palate: Light body, oily texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: A solid smoked beer, but would have like a little more Porter personality.
