COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Most beer was once smoky and we think smoke is still delicious. Brooklyn Fire & Ice is a robust porter that wraps beechwood smoke around a silky core of oatmeal and roasted malts. Wood is cut in the beechwood forests surrounding Bamberg, Germany, and our maltsters use it to dry their smoked malts, which form the basis of this beer. Together with a blend of roasted malts, it creates a beer that is gently smoky and beguilingly chocolaty, with notes of coffee and caramel.

On tap @ La Fine Mousse. Dark reddish-brown with a small persistent creamy beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of smoke, peated notes, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel and light vanilla. Taste is moderately smoke with peat, chocolate, coffee, caramel and vanilla. Light acidic presence. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Decent smoked beer. The light acidity in the taste is a little off, but otherwise itís a solid well-balance beer.

Aroma: Dry, woody smoke with a light powdering of cocoa. Appearance: garnet black with a light skin of tan head. Flavor: Moderate woody smoke up front; smoke centric throughout. A little cocoa makes itís way through, but itís very hushed; smoke and cocoa come up a bit more toward finish. Palate: Light body, oily texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: A solid smoked beer, but would have like a little more Porter personality.

Keg @ Baum, Rochdale. Black with an off-white head just around the glass rim. Has a fine roasted malt porter aroma thatís fused with hop, and a smoked character with a small sweetness also evident. It does fizz a lot in the palate which is its only downside. Its high strength is not so evident.

Pour is pretty dark with some burnt wood brown edges. Nose shows some diacetyl and resembles a Dry Stout. Some chocolate malt and meaty smoke. Medium full body with a light carbonation

On tap at Tyler's (Raleigh) Pours dark. Aroma is smoke. Taste is smoke. If set on fire the smoke would smell like smoke. If I was that big of a Jim Carrey fan I'd make a "smokin'" joke... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
