COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Most beer was once smoky and we think smoke is still delicious. Brooklyn Fire & Ice is a robust porter that wraps beechwood smoke around a silky core of oatmeal and roasted malts. Wood is cut in the beechwood forests surrounding Bamberg, Germany, and our maltsters use it to dry their smoked malts, which form the basis of this beer. Together with a blend of roasted malts, it creates a beer that is gently smoky and beguilingly chocolaty, with notes of coffee and caramel.

The aroma is smoke, chocolate, burnt caramel. The appearance is deep black, light tan head. The flavor is smoky, chocolate, light salt. The finish is smoky, salty, pine. Medium in body, actually a tad thin, this beer’s only real drawback. Nice beer with a nice lightly smoky touch.

Keg at The Cellar, Chester. Dark black with a mocha head. Nicely smoked aroma leading into the taste. Thick chocolate malt smothers blackberry fruitiness and smoke lurks just behind the curtain at all times. Not the most drinkable but then smoked beers rarely are to me, however, when they’re this solid I can certainly appreciate them.

Draft at Mtc Office. Pours very dark with short head. Taste starts sweet, then becomes slightly smokey and ends bitter. Seems heavier than most porters I’ve tried (heavy as in oatmeal stout).

on tap at AJ’s Warehouse. Pours black with big thick head and listing lace. Aroma is soft sweet malty and smoky with something else mixed in here. Flavor classic and very nice porter with a touch of smoke throughout.

Draft. Black with a tan head. Smoky and chocolaty. The smoke doesn’t overwhelm you. Not too bad.

Brooklyn Fire & Ice is an unexpected speciman of this German style. Roasty sweet aroma coming from a dark pour with a tight tan head. Taste is initially a bit sweet like a cola followed by a smokey note and a light bitter finish. Fire & Ice is a delicious and original rauchbier.

Dark brown/black pour with a small tan head. Aromas of slightly smokey malts, toast, some coffee as well. Flavor is coffee and toasted sugar with some subtle smoke character. Not bad but way less smokey than I was expecting and not even close to what I was wanting. The smoke character in this brew is minimal. A decent beer otherwise.

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Opaque chestnut body with a dense tan head. Good retention on the head, settling into a dense filmy coating.
Aroma: Smoked and salty meat is prominent with chocolate supporting it.
Taste: Good balance of smoked meats, campfire and slightly dark chocolate. Finish is balanced and lingers for a few minutes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee.
Palate: Velvety smooth body.
Overall: This is a solid smoked porter, I like the smoke profile but I wish the base beer were a little more bold. I would have liked a more sweet chocolate presence as well.

Had on draft. Nobi Pub. ... Deep black brown .. Medium foam, mild lacing .. . Mild sweet smoke, burnt toast, black sandies, coffee granules, and toasted molasses chips ... Solid mouth and an easy full finish .. A really great porter .. . . MC Hammer beat me in poker once, those damn parachute pants totally confused me.

Keg at The Rake. It pours a deep dark brown body with a small ring of bubbles. Aroma is smoked wood, coffee beans and cocoa. Taste is smoked wood, cocoa nibs and espresso. Long bitter finish with smoked malts. Medium body with average carbonation. Good
