COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Hammarby Syndrome is the distress or impairment caused by the frenzied anticipation and giddy obsession over the beautiful Hammarby Sjöstad section of Stockholm, Sweden and the New Carnegie Brewery that Brooklyn Brewery will open there in March." Now there’s good news - we can help you! Our new Brewmaster’s Reserve beer is Hammarby Syndrome, a robust ale that will transport you directly to the seaside of old Stockholm. It’s brewed from a large proportion of spelt, an ancient wheat-like grain that was once a mainstay of Scandinavian beers. To the spelt’s distinctively nutty flavor, we’ve added another old Swedish beer ingredient - spruce fronds. They add a tasty citrusy pine note to a full-bodied, lightly fruity strong ale that’ll keep you warm until the spring sunshine comes to the rescue. More importantly, it’s great with hearty cold-weather food, and it’ll make you feel like you’re in Hammarby until you can come visit us there yourself.

Originally rated on 4/19/14. Tried this on tap yesterday at the Wayside Pub in Lake Jackson. It pours a reddish brown tinged body with a off white cap that settled quickly. Aroma is very malt forward, grain, bread, some sweet fruitiness , some odd funkiness and booze. Mouthfeel was full and sticky. Flavor is grainy, bread, some caramel very slight fruit presence and the funk was there. Overall it was just o.k. the odd funk kinda spoiled it a bit for me.

Had this at a beer tasting event with over 50 breweries and I thought this was the most impressive brew there. Great amber color. Great taste. A little heavy for summer time but still very good.

Keg at Camden Town taproom. Pours clear, rich amber-yellowish with a pale cream head. The nose holds some rich bread, light meat, caramel. Medium to big sweet flavor with heavy bread, lots of caramel, slight leafy hops. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Sweet finish with sticky toasted sugars, loads more caramel. Fair.

Taster. Poured an orangish color with aromas of light rye, some citrus and light floral hops. Flavors are the same light rye backbone with some nice spruce, syrupy and citrus notes.

Murky auburn, no head. Nose is minty honey, dehydrated grass and scrubbed wood. Light treacle and honey sweet hit a right grainy dryness. Soft carbonation and a keen bitterness on the back end. Finishes a nice juicy brass, motown bitterness. Really lifts itself. Gummy plum and starchy linger. Keg, Birexx, Newcastle.
