COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter’s getting pretty old, isn’t it? Well, springtime is on the way, and we think it’s time to perk up. As strange as it may seem, coffee is intricately entwined with the story of modern stouts. Until the 1700’s, most dark beers were smoky in flavor – the malts were dried over wood fires. It was the development of coffee roasting technology that soon allowed brewers to achieve clean roasted flavors in their malts. It’s not surprising that the fruit and roast notes in fine coffees meld perfectly with roasted malt flavors. For our coffee we went directly to the ultimate source, Duane Sorenson of the famous Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Stumptown originally hails from Portland, Oregon, but they’ve just started roasting in Red Hook, Brooklyn also, and we’re pleased to welcome them to the neighborhood. We’ve brewed the beer with solid British and American malts, and then “intensified” our stout with Duane’s Guatemalan Full City roast beans, giving the beer a wonderfully complex coffee aroma and flavor.

This beer pairs beautifully with burgers, venison, duck, desserts, and….ummm…brunch. Yeah, you bet. So if winter’s tired you out, try Brooklyn Intensified Coffee Stout. It’s a stimulus package we can all believe in.

Pours black and tastes of chocolate covered espresso beans. I also noticed very slight banana undertones, probably from the yeast.

Amazing. Bold black pour with huge aromas of roast, coffee and chocolate. Taste matches the aroma, but the coffee flavor is really good and there is hitns of smoke and wood. Great!

Draft, but sadly too cold served by the brewer himself :-) Black color with small head. Lots of nice coffee flavor. From my Backlog

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of dark chocolate, bitter coffee, spicy, some burned sugar, molasses. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, bitter, some dark fruity hints, coffee, touches of cherries with some astringency on the finish.

On tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a black color with a caramel colored head. Aroma of coffee and caramel with some dark fruit underneath. Has a sweet coffee taste with some nice chocolate notes on the finish. Smooth and tasty.

On tap at the Hopcat in the summer of 09. A black pour with a huge head. Raw coffee aroma. The fresh roastedness comes through over the course of sampling. Chocolate roasted malt flavors. Lightly sweet. Chocolate coffee finish.

Best brooklyn beer on tap at the blind tiger so far. Typical black pour with a small tan head. Bitter coffee and dark chocolate are quite standard on the nose. Much more comes out on the taste. Dark chocolate and thick fudge combine to make a very long lingering finish. Loving it

Black pour tan head ... roasted and coffee aroma .... chocolately and sweet fruity/roasted coffee taste ... a very sweet brew with a bitter roasted finish ... not as intense as i expected but a good brew .... thought it would have way more roasted coffee flavor

(Old BA rate - cask) Jet black color, and almost looks like oil in a glass. Very thin, tannish head. Dry-roasted coffee aroma, some booze sneaks in as well but not overwhelming. Not much else outside the coffee. Like the aroma, the coffee characteristics shine through. Alcohol is better hidden in the taste and doesn’t detract from the flavor. Just a hint of bittersweet chocolate among the roastiness. Thinner than it looks, but quite a decent body on this one. Very muted carbonation (expected for style AND on cask). Think the cask suits this brew well. Deceptively drinkable given the weight. Very coffee-forward

pours ink black with no head. roasty, espresso and toasted nuts. body is a bit thin and finishes with some gross astringency. Coffee flavor is not as intense as some other stouts, but I think the caffeine made my heart palpitate a bit.
