Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Bottle. Dark amber colour, large off-white head, bubbly. Dusty hoppiness, slightly fizzy smelling nose, slightly sweet malt. Very clean taste, bitter and slightly lively slightly fruity taste. Slightly floral and bitter finish, very clean, very easy drinking. Quite ok.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2007 Little one finger head appears on top of a light copper body. Floral tones highlighted by notes of toffee, mild hops and malts, spices are evident too. Very refreshing taste yields to more aggressive spiciness and grassy hops. Finish is very clean. Very well done and quaffable Vienna.

It starts with an amber pour, and a good head that slowly diminishes. The aroma is a thin one, just a hint of bitterness and astringincy. Has a citrus, slightly bitter taste, with a thin palate. This is a beer that exceeded my expectations, and has the hints of a great session ale.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2007 (Bottel) pours clear amber. Citrus aroma with malty tones of caramel and toffee. Light undertones of flowers and small spicy notes. Maybe some fruityness. Crispy mouthfeel with a medium bitter, grapefruity ending. Nice malty backbone. Slightly peppery palate. Medium body.

A dark, amber coloured beer with a thick white head. A soapy hop aroma, citrusy with a malty undertone. A dry, hoppy taste, floral, slightly grassy and citrusy. There is a malty flavour in the background. The finish is dry. (Bottle - purchased from Tesco, Fakenham, Norfolk, at a reduced price of 95p. a bottle).

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2007 Re-rate. Pours golden/copper with a frothy light tan head. Lightly sweet malty aroma, with a good hop profile. Nice hop bitterness and spice throughout, with big balancing semi sweet malt background. Palate is medium, bitter, a little oily, with nice hop spice through the finish.

Very sweet, malty, round taste. This beer was a happy surprise; I really enjoyed it. Good with pizza.

This has caught me by surprise, a nut brown lager with a lingering hoppy taste characteristic of an English ale.

I’ve got to say, this is a tastey beer. Seeing it anywhere and everywhere I went in NYC I was half expecting it to be weak and watered down ... what a plesent suprise! Had a nice lagar-esque flavor but with both malts and hops. Which is wierd becaus eI often think of lager as beeing rather tasteless. Hops are what make this beer good.
