COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Bottle. Pours clear copper with an average, frothy and fizzy cream colored head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, toasted, cookie), average hops (woody, earthy), and light esters (apple/pear). Flavor is heavy malt (bread, toasted, cookie), average hops (woody, earthy, herbal), and light esters (dried fruit). Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation, low creaminess, and a dry finish.

Cool, a new arrival at the LCBO (March 2007)... and an American lager. Wow ! This one is not what one would expect, from what I have just said. First thing I noticed is the hoppy smell. It is quite strong and spicy. Its colour is a clean copper-orange with a big creamy off-white head that has great retention. The carbonation is pretty active and the lacing is thick and patchy. The taste shows how strong the hop is, as this one has bite. Good spicy bitterness that stays a bit, but then goes clean all of a sudden. Very nice, and refreshing, but this one really tastes like a very good ale. So don’t judge it by it’s title of lager.

Pours orange with decent head. Aroma is mild malts, hints of roasts and citrus. Flavor is slightly bitter hops and nuttiness. Soapy mouthfeel. Okay.

Bottle. Amber with a large white head. Aroma: caramel malt, hops (cascade?) citrus, fruit. taste: caramel, citrus, some licorice. A bit thin, quite a high bitterness for the style.

Amber color with white head. A little skunky aroma, body is medium, taste is mild but also seems a little off. Ok, but not one I’d order again.

Yes the aroma has a definite pizza sauce smell! Very fitting for a NY brew. Thankfully, it does not taste like pizza but is fruity and malty. I really enjoyed this!
