Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

On Tummits tap At Summittís Wayside Taven during the Brooklyn Brewing Tasting...Nice full body for a Lager...Plenty of caramel malts to this one...Lcking a bit in some hop characters but maybe not for the style...Definite session brew

Pours a gold amber with a white fizzy head that is quick to dissipate, but if you pour to fast it gets foamy. Smells of yeast hops and malted barley with visibly fizz in the glass. Well made lager in that it takes the elements hitting you with hops and then finishes with the light, pale malt. Yeast is prominent and makes it taste not as bland as some others, does have a creamy mouth and serious carbonation. One of the best for itís style. As compared to say Yuengling, (which I was drinking last night) the focus is much more on the hops and yeast while the pale malt is in the background. The pale malt is much more prominent in most lagers. I thought this was almost like an IPA when i was new to different beers but now I see how it fits in to itís bland genre. One of the best in a category which doesnít have much special to offer.

BOTMC Selection: Poured from the bottle into a double-walled pint glass. Pour produced a golden amber body with a pale yellow head of foam which mostly diminished with moderate lacing. Aroma is well-balanced, with a fair amount of hops, providing a floral scent. Dry, bitter taste, with some malting, and a clean bitter aftertaste. Not overly complex, though full-flavored.

Really nice lager. Beautiful malty taste and aroma. Some faint citrus. Slight caramel touch. Beautifully balanced.

Bottle. Pours a copper colour with a light head. Hops, orange and some malty caramel on the nose. The taste has some sweet caramel notes and some nice hops. Good QPR on this lager!

Bottle. Pours dark, hazy orange with off-white head. Flowery hoppy lager aroma. Flavors are mostly flowery/grass/straw, with malts sort of taking a backseat. Hints of yeast and hops. Satisfying lager, but too low on the malts.

Bottle, from a bodega blocks from the brewery (the Bklyn one, where this is NOT made). A clear orange-amber beer with a modest white head that leaves lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, with some flowery hops notes. The taste is surprisingly hoppy for a lager, atop a solid malt backbone. Finish is crisp dry hop bitterness. I could drink this all night, in fact I just might.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2007 (Bottle BB 07/07; ABV 5.2%) Fruity (citrus), hoppy (flowery) and malty aroma. Amber colour, clear and small, white, very slightly lasting head with good lacing. Toffee malty, citrus fruity and moderately bitter flavour. Medium-bodied and softly carbonated palate. Good brew, which does not taste lager! 10/03/07 (original rating was 7/3/7/3/14)

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2010 Had a very nice amber colour but not much head. Hoppy flavor that went down very well. Had it some time ago and canít remember the finer details of this beer. I do remember that it tasted good though.
