Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

500 ml bottle - Apart from the spectacularly iconic branding, it isn't anything special. A session lager, no real head and dark brown colour.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2003 On a warm Saturday afternoon in May, took one of those bikerides that took me a lot further than I probably should have went. During a much needed pit-stop, I enjoyed two excellently poured pints of this Lager accompanied by a heaping order of pommes frites with curry mayonaise. This is a filling and smooth, albeit pretty typical lager. Hints of toasted nuts and citrus. Hopsy, but not overboard. A little bite never hurt anyone. Good head and sweet aroma. Too bad the frites gave me indigestion on that long ride home! I've never been let down by a Brooklyn beer!

On tap in namesake @ the Bier Markt: Amber-orange with medium head and healthy lacing...good looks. Aromas are strong with sweet malt, fruit and floral hops. Tastes hoppy with undertones of citrus and butterscotch. Bitter finish. Very impressive.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Being a lager there is a subdued aroma but what is here is enticing - caramel malt, some floral notes - and overall, refreshing. Pours amber/gold colour with a 1-finger head which is commendably resilient. Taste is floral and fresh with a dominant caramel backbone. Finish is hoppilly bitter. Nice.

The truth is I am really not a personal fan of this type of lager. That said, this is much better than almost any other American Malt Lagers that I’ve had. Appearance: This beer pours a coppery light brown, decent white head. Smell: Raw barley was the overwhelming aroma. There was also malts, and a bit of green (hops) in the nose. Taste: I found the taste to be a bit watery, with lots of empty space. Light malts up front with a quite hoppy aftertaste. Above average compared to American Macros but certainly not a very interesting beer in comparison to other craft beers or American All-Malt Lagers. Aproachable. Mouthfeel: A bit thin and watery; typical of an American lager but certainly nothing special in the mouthfeel (just okay). Drinkability: There is nothing very interesting about this beer but it is cool clear and refreshing, like water. It is definitely a significantly sessionable beer, with low ABV and no extreme flavors you could drink it all night; and still walk home (w/o stumbling). Hope this is helpful. Cheers!

Decent beer. No way a 90 though. A little better than a Sam Adams boston lager (tasted side by side) straight forward grain malt with creamy mouth feel.

Had in a bottle at a bar. Light amber color. Hoppy with a great malt flavor. Excellent taste left on the palate.
