Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Vienna Lager is very good, this beer reminded me of an Octoberfest brew.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2003 Pours with a bright crisp amber body topped by a medium thick head with good lacing left on the glass. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with caramel notes and hoppy undertones. The flavor is sweet, caramelly, and malty with a hoppy background and a hoppy finish. Smooth and light bodied.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2012 Bottled. Brown coloured lager with a berry fruit aroma. Very full, malty flavour but the aftertaste is a bit too sweet for my liking. Not particularly refreshing but drinkable none the less Score 2.9

Blimey, a bit dark for a lager was my first thought until I came to enter the rate and discovered it is classed as a Vienna (my only previous Vienna being the "Mongolian Baadog). Any way, an intriguing ginger/gold colour, with a reddish tints. The aroma has dry bready malt with something a little sharp in the background. Much the same in the mouth, with orangey nuances. Sweet and sour finish. Not bad. Certainly better than your average lager. 355ml bottle from beersofeurope.co.uk

Aroma is malt and sweetness. Flavor is slight malt forward with a malty finish. Nice light everyday beer.

Lighter amber color, white head. Nice hop prescence, a little bit of bread. Flavor is a little malty, followed by a decent amount of hops. While nice, the hops left an odd astringent taste on my tongue. Medium bodied. Overall a nice beer to be given the dubious task of carrying the ’lager’ title for the brewery.

Draught at Dojo, New York.
A clear dark orange beer with almost no head. Full and sweet malty aroma with toffee tones. Very flavorfull for a lager. Malty and hoppy with notes of Brooklyn yeast and flowers. Nutty finish. A beer I could drink all night long....!

This must be over-rated or maybe this was better in years past. I was impressed by it’s color, it’s flavor was good but not exceptional, not worthy of being in the 70th percentile.

On Tummits tap At Summitt’s Wayside Taven during the Brooklyn Brewing Tasting...Nice full body for a Lager...Plenty of caramel malts to this one...Lcking a bit in some hop characters but maybe not for the style...Definite session brew

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2004 (12 oz bottle, obtained in trade with shadey, thanks Shane!) Not just your generic lager, this one has a lot of flavor. A toasty, malty, somewhat sweet flavor is nicely balanced by a mildly bitter hops, which prevents the palate from getting too sweet and tiring. But as the beer finishes, it takes on more characteristic flavors of a lager. It starts off nicely, but doesn’t finish as well. Malty, lightly sweet nose smells a bit like an Oktoberfest. The color is light amber and slightly cloudy. Smallish off-white head fades to a rim after a bit, and there’s only a few specs and dots of lace on the glass. So don’t let the label fool you, this is much better than a generic lager. That fact may account for what I think are inflated ratings. In the end, it’s still a pretty average microbrew with some "lagerish" tendancies in the finish.
