COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

Brooklyn’s big beers tend to be as tough as their namesake, always carrying along an alcohol punch to counter any flavors conjured up. Local 1 is no exception. Takes up a saison-wheat beer character in the nose, with stronger malts and sugar upping the sweetness of the taste. A little too sweet for me, but the tartness of the yeast goes nicely with the hefe leanings. I’d be a bigger fan of this brew if the alcohol wasn’t so prominent; the bubbly feel and the heat give Local 1 the texture of cheap champagne. Still, the weird complexity of flavors makes this bottle one to try. (2008)

Hazy golden body with a long lasting thick and densely bubbled white head. Fruity esters with biscuit and lemon. Palate is nice. Carbonation level is about perfect. Very enjoyable and my first brew from Brooklyn, other than the collaboration IPA Tripel with Schneider-Weisse.

Pours slightly hazy orangeish red with white head. Uncaged it, and the cork popped out on its own and started gushing, but once the carb settled down it came across quite nicely. Aroma has notes of some fruity orange, vanilla, spice, bready yeast, earth, some grassy hops. Taste is fruity with esters, some slight farmhouse funk, orange and lemon, with notes of bread, coriander, touch of sweet vanilla, finishing slightly bitter and an alcoholic bite. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2011 Manage to grab a 2006 batch of local 1 straight from garret’s stash at the blind tiger. Sour aroma combining with orange and lemon zest. Coriander is present. Loads of spices come through in the taste with inclusions of banana, mint leaf and biscuity malts. Nice brew. Re-rate: Just recieved a fresh supply of Local 1 down under and it was nowhere near as good as the first time I had it. So the rating I’m giving it now is an inbetween. Lacked lots of the notes that I assume the ageing gave it

Pours golden yellow with a big pillowy white head that seams to continue to grow in the glass before settling down. Aroma of belgian yeast, grain, bread, light fruit. Taste is pretty much the same but just like the black chocolate stout it tastes "industrial."

Bottle. Actually the test batch. A definite belgian golden ale. Smells of wheat, yeats, breadz, lemon and sugar. Taste is the same! Almost saisonish. Really excellent

A golden color, strong and full in flavor. Malt and yeast flavors are most prevalent with some fruit and sour taste.

Birra rifermentata in bottiglia.
