Commercial Description:
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

Bottled. Very grainy, barley, wheat aroma, extremely dry. Flavor has a touch of sweetness up front but ends in a wet, soggy dryness that sucks up moisture from the tongue. A touch of hop or of citrus, maybe, but this is mostly like licking a rug. I had high expectations for this beer, I am disappointed. But maybe I just am horrifically sick of Brooklyn after drinking some 13 or 14 of theirs beers in the past week.

Bottle. Body-honey yellow with a very thick, very foamy head. Nose-big sweet macroness, yeasty. Taste-high CO2, lotion, metal, banana, clove, big yeast, banana esters, light bitter, candy sugar, definitely a Belgian yeast strain. Reminiscent of Duvel. Perfume, clove, apple skin, raw sugar, unrefined, white grapes. Like an “Imperial Duvel”.

750 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden yellow colour, thick and foamy white head. Pleasant fruity and spicy aroma. Malty, rather dry flavour with oranges and other fruits, and a spicy, peppery bitter finish with some alcohol warmth.

750 ml bottle. Clear, golden color with a large, fluffy white head. Aroma of citrus hops, honey, some spices. Nice carbonation. Flavor is malty, with some banana notes and caramel. Finish is slightly peppery, with a good bit of warming alcohol.

(bottle from Daknole, thanks!) Pours hazy light gold with a fluffy white head that settles to a thin cap. The aroma is a nice combination of fruit, bread, spice, and hops, with aromas of pear, pineapple, floral honey, orange peel, pepper, and some yeast. There is also a significant amount of alcohol that does intrude upon the otherwise pleasant aroma. The taste was not as good, and starts out lightly sweet, some orange and vanilla, but then veers into a mineral-like quality (possibly from the alcohol), which was not good. The finish was very dry, with bread and bitter hops, along with the ever-present alcohol. Medium mouthfeel with spritzy carbonation. If the alcohol was toned-down on this, it would’ve been really good.

This foremost tastes like a mix between a good apple cider and Le Fin Du Monde. It’s major effervescence leaves a wonderful sting in the back of your through as your mouth is bombarded with fruit flavors and spices. A wonderful, gentleman’s cologne wafts off the glass- this is a man’s candy. 8.99 for a 25.5 oz at Whole Foods Market.

One of my favorite new go-to beers. Very well done rendition. Great effervesence with a nice spiciness.
