3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Frank (1966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2010
Whoa! Loosened the cage on this one just a hair and the cork jumped out of the bottle w/ a huge pop and the bottle immediately started gushing. Haven’t had that happen in a while. Thankfully, the beer seems perfectly intact. It’s a real nice Belgian style that almost comes of as a giant hefeweizen due to the strong banana notes. It pours a cloudy golden orange w/ a big head of large bubbles that fades quickly. Banana is predominant in the nose along w/ a bit of lavender baby powder and a faint orange blossom honey note. Very briskly carbonated, w/ a strong bite on the the tongue, which is surprising since gushers normally tend to end up flat when all is said and done. Flavor is dominated by a very strong banana character which wanes to a lingering herbal bitterness in the finish. Good stuff though perhaps the folks at Brooklyn haven’t quite got their bottle conditioning down to an absolute silence.

Pours a solid almost clear gold. Very thin head with lots of carbonation. Aroma is citrus, yeast and spice. Taste was sweet with a nice warming on the finish. Alcohol is hidden well for 9%. Light mouthfeel with a crisp finish, not expected but certainly enjoyed. Pretty solid.

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with an off-white head that settles to a ring. Aromas of fruit and yeast. the flavor found fruit, clove, and yeast. Medium body, fizzy carbonation, and sweet throughout.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 zizzybalubba (919) - Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA - APR 21, 2010
750 mL bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Golden yellowish-orange pour with a bubbly white head. Aroma of bready yeast, light lemon zest, and bitter grassy hops. Flavor brings out the Belgian yeast and some of the tart citrus and finishes with a slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is light in body but with some detectable alcohol warming. Overall, an excellent Belgian ale nearly on par with something like Duvel.
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 SSKD814 (854) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 20, 2010
A- Very cloudy golden yellow body. Pours with a large foamy white head that has good retention. Plenty of lacing is left behind in the glass. Great unflitered appearance.
S- Big complex nose. Belgian yeast, citrus, clove, earthy hops, and a touch of sugar balance well and make a wonderful sweet yet spicy aroma.
T- Taste is very much the same as the smell. Great blend of citrus, bitter hops, spices, sugar, and yeast. The taste is very big and flavorful yet soft with bready belgian yeast coming through as the main character. The alcohol is there but is well hidden by everything else that is going on in this beer. The finish is the same as the initial taste with a nice consistency all the way through. Spicy/Sweet bready yeast lingers.
P- Soft carbonation and medium body. Smooth, creamy, and heavenly.
O- Job well done by Brooklyn brewery. This is a delicious Belgian interpretation that I will have again...and again.
Had this at Bocktown following a conversation about how hard it is to find a good American brewed Belgian interpretation. This was brought out after I told them how much I like Don de Dieu by Unibroue.
Thanks to Tony for splitting this with me!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sepia5 (204) - Washington DC, USA - APR 17, 2010
Pours very cloudy and golden with a pretty decent-sized white, foamy head. Nose is maybe a bit weak, but of belgian yeast and citrus. Flavor is belgian yeast, lemon/orange peel, and just a bit of cloves. Nice beer, though there are others of the style I enjoy more. Good option for this time of year, nevertheless.
