Commercial Description:
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

Sampled from a 750ml bottle. Pours a somewhat murky peach color with a thick fluffy head. The head does settle just a little but there’s still quite a bit of lace left on the glass. Aroma is nice, citrusy fresh with the following of me noticing them; oranges, yeast, piney cloves, vanilla and faint banana. The flavor is light warm weather citrus fruits, most notably oranges or tangerine. Also yeasty and slightly spicy but not as spicy as I was expecting. This is medium to light-bodied, clean, very easy drinking and quite refreshing. The alcohol content is hardly noticed at all. Surely some will say it could use more of a bite to it. Overall this is a good beer, a solid Belgian Strong Ale and a great choice on a warm day. Re-rate 8/8/09. Orange-gold, thick white head, nice lacing. Bananas, cloves, overall sweet, little spice, refreshing. Initial rating a bit high but this still is a very good beer.

Bottle huge thanks to Matt. Aroma is spicey, very triple like, palke malts and spicey peppery character. Taste is nicely balanced als really well hidden, somwehere between a yeasty tripple and a barley wine as the malt character is sweet and tasty. Really nice beer and something that iv have happily sat and drank lots of.

Large bottle, shared with the Devonshire Knights. Yellow gold pour with white head. Sweet hop aroma with a sweet yeast and malts flavor moving into the pallet. Bread with alcohol mix gives a slight spicy bitterness. Would like to try again because we sampled so many other beers that this got a little lost in translation.

750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours a very cloudy, deep gold that almost glows from within with orange and gold highlights. The head is immense, white, and tightly bubbled. The head quickly fades into a thin ring - some lace is left behind on the glass, but not a lot. The aroma starts spicy - some cloves, some pepper, and pears. There is also a strong, funky note that combines with the aromas of sweet malts, alcohol, and phenols to produce something subtly like runny, French cheese. But the latter character is subtle - unlike the esters and phenols. The flavor starts sweet with a soft, pale malt character and has a good bit of light spices - particularly peppery phenols. There is also a dustiness in there that is thanks in some part to the intensely dry and highly-bubbled texture. The flavor has a slight note of alcohol. By mid-palate, the ethanol flavor is a little stronger and combines with some nice, noble hop bitterness. There is some fruitiness in there and a slight acidity that lend notes of dry perry and dry white wine. The mouthfeel is quite effervescent and lively - but it’s also perfect in body: light for its strength but heavy enough to feel velvety, not watery. Overall, this a tasty beer and dangerously drinkable - though the flavor ethanol around mid-palate reveals the beer for what it is. Delicious and refreshing.

Insanely huge, thick head, some citrus, candi sugar, banana, little bit of bitterness. Understated, slightly acidic. Not amazing, but a good Belgian.

Nice banana and clove aroma from this beer. Pours a slightly cloudy straw yellow with a huge fluffy white head, and a lot of visible carbonation. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side, with hints of banana, bitterness, and sugar. Alcohol is very well hidden. A very drinkable beer.

Pours a nice hazy yellow. Big thick head. Aromas of spice, alcohol, bread, and citrus. Taste follows suit. Overall a great beer. It does fall a little short of my expectations though.

750 ml. Slight haze on the pale golden brew. Large and lasting head leaves nice lace on the Brooklyn Trappist glass. Aroma is light fruit, spicy yeasty bread, citrus, honey, and coriander. Flavors of citrus, resin, alcohol, wheat, white wine grapes, spices; slight banana and bubblegum. A tad-larger-than-light body is soft and dry.
