malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Sep 24, 2007 750 ml in Duvel glass. Pale hazy yellow with quickly disappearing white head, leaving lasting ring with large bubbles. Lemon pastry aroma. Complex flavors of confectioners sugar and tart citrus fruitiness, finishing with a spicy dryness. Excellent flavors. Medium-heavy body, and medium carbonation. An excellent tasting beer that could use a slightly livelier, lighter body. Overall, though, first class. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Sep 24, 2007 Poured a hazy gold with a medium foamy white head.
Initial green apple and soft fruit blossom aroma. Very nice flavour, soft fruity with a touch of corriander. A touch of soft bitterness and a smooth sweet body that hides the 9% alc. well. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 24, 2007 Golden yellow, with a decent head. Malty, bready aroma, with some fruity notes. Nice apple or pear flavors to start, with an almost savory Euro-hop finish. Sampled at 2007 Asheville Brewgrass. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 23, 2007 Pours a slightly hazy gold with a lasting thin white head. There is a very faint aroma of green grape and yeast. The taste is fantastic - wonderful fruity sweet malt taste, light tart hops, and a wonderful warm aftertaste. Notes of grape, citrus (orange, grapefruit) and licorice and coriander. Body is chewy, carbonation excellent. An excellent, fresh tasting Belgian! rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 23, 2007 Bottled.
Deep charneol colour. Sweet, fruity aroma with caramel, yeast and glue. Almondy backbone, with little licorice and nicely yeasty. Soft mouthfeel with good balance and lingering maltiness. Nice, elegant beer, not as bold as many Belgian Strong Ales. littlehowtown (1), USA does not count Sep 23, 2007 This is my first rating, and it’s mostly because this beer was such a great surprise and the overall score here did it no justice.
Tasted in a Reidel Magnum

The Local 1 pours golden. And I mean golden. After the haze from the chill wears off, it is crystalline in clarity, drawing you right in to it. It was almost a visual cue to let you know when the beer was getting to its shining temperature. It reminded me of my bourbon nights. I love watching the haze chill fall off bourbon. Pours with a good finger of creamy white head. No effervescence noticeable in the glass.
Aromas of yeasty ideas like clove and spice, a bit of quiet, sweet dough. Hints of apricots and a bit of pine. Nice balance, you want to keep putting your nose in the glass.
Flavors are a wonderful harmony. Like many traditional goldens, the yeast takes a big part of center stage, but it doesn’t overwhelm the palate, which has been my experience thus far with the style. You can taste the light toasty malts in there as well. Spiciness, dried apricots, finishes nicely dry, almost as the label says "dusted", it is a bit like a fine dry dust finish without much lingering. The effervescence is perfect. So fine and soft, the beer has a chance to talk. It is so well structured, you can feek the laboring that must have brought that balance.
Again, overall, a beautiful beer. One of my first thoughts was to go back to the store I found it and take their last bottle, and that happens seldom. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Sep 23, 2007 Bottled.
Pale golden with a alrge, white head.
Yeasty and grassy aroma.
Citrus and pomernace in the flavour with some American hoppiness. Yeasty like a wit-bier. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 21, 2007 Pours a clouded straw gold with a huge white head. Nose is strong with yeast and a sugar tone. Just smelling it brings back memories of all the great Belgian brews I have had to this point in my beer journey. Flavor is superb. Put this in a plain bottle and no one would know it was out of Brooklyn I am willing to wager. Smooth and even sweetness with a noticable yeast influence. So well balanced and smooth. Unbelievable. Feel is as good as everything else has been to this point. Smooth and with a great level of bubble on the tongue. Drinkable to the worlds joy and detriment. I immediately just wanted to go back and get more.
