COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

Bottle from Capone’s. Hazy goldish pour with 2-finger, creamy off-white head. The aroma has heavy Belgian yeast, candi sugar, and hopcitrus. Medium palate heft, with flavors of hopcitrus, pale malt, spicy yeast, and some floral notes. Not as good as I expected it to be. I’ll have to rerate after I lay one down.

750mL bottle. Poured a clear, lighter golden with lots of rising carbonation and a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up bananas and other yeasty notes... spritzy feel to it... some darker sugars with warmth to it. Flavor struck me as a good European strong lager with spicy Belgian yeast... lots of darker banana and some grassy notes... sweet candi sugar, spices, and bananas at the finish. Creamy middle of the palate with cascading spices going outward.. warm at the edges and finish.. left an intriguing sticky spicage in the mouth for quite a while. This was an interesting, tasty brew.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2007 Gorgeous bottle... but I guess that’s beside the point. A pale straw colour, light hazy and a huge pillowy white head. Really a gorgeous-looking brew. Fresh peppery aroma, light dusty/minty spiciness as well. The yeast they’ve used is quite expressive with nice herbal mint, coriander, and a sweet pear fruitiness being the most obvious characteristics. The flavour is substantially maltier than either the aroma or appearance would have suggested. Fresh hay/straw maltiness with sweet fruity (pear/apple/white grape) esters. Soft dusty earthy backnote with soft clove adn black pepper spiciness. Herbal and minty on the finish with a bit of breadiness lingering on the back of the palate. A bit wheaty with a fairly dry finish (although it could always be a bit drier). A touch of citrus on the back keeps it refreshing. This is an excellent beer that should improve over the next year or two.

750 ml bottle shared with friend. aroma was grassy with lots of belgian ale yeast aroma of spice and beauty. the beer poured a pure gold with a lucious white head that did not go anywhere during the duration of the beers consumption. the flavor was dry with a bit of astringincy, pepper and citrussy bitterness. reminisent of duvel. Quite refreshing and enjoyable to drink. I wish i had belgian ale everday!

This beer was the "shiznit". A pleasant (albeit, expensive) surprise at the Brickskeller in DC. Advettised as a Belgian Ale, it definitely was one of the most well balanced beers I’ve had from Brooklyn Brewery. Great mouthfeel, slightly bubbly, and a little spice. Light fruits (citrus/pear) on the nose and on the tongue. Almost floral. Sweet, but not too sweet. I’d defintiely like to see this as a regular drink, but as a strong 9% beer, you can’t just drink a lot of it. (Bottle Pour 3/24/2007)
