kujo9 (1043), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Jan 9, 2008 750 ml bottle 11/14/07: Medium golden body w/ a white medium sized lasting head.. Lightly hazy w/ alcohol legs. Some peppery yeast but also plastickky phenolic. Ripe pears, some corn sugary/dms notes and pils malt... Touches of alcohol & more pear notes Also a hint of marshmallow, clove, toffee, and toasted malt in the nose. Well balanced, but slightly sweet and fruity up front. Some dms and sugary flavors are light along w/ herbal hops. A touch of dry bitterness, and not quite as complex as the aroma. Lighty spicy pear mid palate. White peppery yeast and pils malt flavor mid palate, still a bit sweet. Aftertaste is dry, short, and herbal/floral hop flavored and dry along with some of the peppery yeast. Lighter body, high med. carbonation, nicely hidden alcohol. I’m fairly impressed about this offering from Brooklyn. I wasn’t expecting much, but I’m pleasantly surprised. Subtle but complex, and the only thing I really didn’t care for was the plasticky phenolic similar to JP beers. I think it would pair fairly well with some moderately strong cheeses or salads w/ vinagrette dressing to get a sweet/sour thing going.
canary dog (371), Rutland, Vermont, USA Jul 22, 2008 A well made but unexpectedly strange brew. Perhaps slightly more inspiring than a typical 10% strong beer, but still has strange combination of very alchoholic taste in a whit beer body. Not really my favorite kind of beer. jeckenroth (45), Charlestown, Massachusetts, USA Jul 20, 2008
Hazy golden inviting color with a short white head.
Smells of lemon and hops.
Wonderful surprise when first tasting. Light, citrus and spice, but finishes with an out of place vanilla and sweetness.
Light on the tongue. Quickly cuts through all other flavors. Lively but not overly intense carbonation. Homer321 (27), Rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 wow. this is a beer that I could smell all day long and never even taste. purs a nice head, but qiockly dissipates. taste is slightly tart with orange and other light fruits. This is amazingly good. I think the bottle I have is about 6 mos old, not sure if that helped to mellow things out. rcasta (232), El Salvador Jul 16, 2008 A Sim rate (tap at Heartland Brewery, Union Square): It’s that infectious kind of hops aroma that just jumps out at you! It’s fresh summer. It’s cut grass. Very nice head and lacing. It’s everything an IPA should be. Malty and so freshly hoppy. Delicate after an initial serious assault. Very impressed. urraca (36), New Jersey, USA Jul 11, 2008 Very, very impressive beer. Pours a brilliant hazy gold, with a head that doesn’t last long at all. Lots of citrus on the nose. Taste is so smooth and drinkable and not very carbonated. Definite tastes of citrus, dominated by grapefruit, and other zests. perhaps a little bit of vanilla lingers in the after taste. Will buy again very soon!
