3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boliv (964) - New York, USA - APR 5, 2010
Bottle. Poured dark brown, darker than I expected, with a medium tan-colored head. Aromas of apple cider, grapes, sweet cane sugar, and a little sourness. Raisins and plummy notes become noticeable as it warms. Flavor is alcohol upfront, with sweet beets, sugar cane, and orange peel, with a touch of dark fruit. Carbonated, pretty fizzy, and moderately warming. Overall, pretty good, nice to try.

Dark cider/brown color; Medium slightly cream body; Aroma of malt, dark fruit, & some spice; Flavor of sweet malt, yeast, fruit (notably plums & dates), caramel, and honey; Nicely balanced and complex; Overall, very good - though, I enjoyed their ‘local 1’ more.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jgb9348 (3371) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - APR 3, 2010
Deep muddy brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, yeast, alcohol and pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt and yeastie tastes with some honey and mild coriander seed flavours tucked in with curacao and caramel. Aftertaste shows some nuts, malt and honey with a good and mild finish. Overall, a good beer, perhaps a bit too nutty and malty, but nice to try! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Party Beverage in Newburgh, New York on 02-April-2010, sampled later in the evening in Upstate New York.

Pours a dense and deep mahogany with an aroma of weak autum spices (nutmeg, cinammon, candy sugar). Flavor is watery cinammon and nutmeg witha slight bready finish and just a hint of honey. Average and tingly on the tongue. Not bad but it doesn’t stand out.

750ml bottle, caged and corked. Loud ’pop’ upon removing the cork, but thankfully no gush. Poured a clear garnet brown color. The head was light tan. Initially tall, it reduced over a minute or so to a lasting thin film that maintained itself. Lots of clove and white pepper in the nose with hints of dark fruit and toffee. Medium bodied and delicately sweet. Carbonation was on the higher end of the spectrum, but did not reach champagne levels. Belgian spices, alcohol, and subdued toffee flavors.

This beer is a great example of why one shouldn’t assume a dark beer will be a heavy or strong beer. Pours a transparent black with a big, frothy, tan head. Nose is pretty weak and ordinary, but this is a really refreshing beer. The honey and orange peel come through predominantly, with a bit of yeast and malt. Nice beer.

Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, dark malt, honey, orange and brown sugar. Taste of honey, sweet malt, dark fruit, orange, brown sugar and Belgian yeast. Moderately carbonated with a dry, yeasty finish.

Texas Bluebonnet Brew-off 2010. Aroma of bread, caramel, and other malty flavors. It poured a nice deep brown color with great lacing. Tasted alright with hints of raisin and slight citrus. Active carbonation on the palate. Overall, this isn’t bad and I would try again someday.
