Here in Brooklyn weve combined European malt and hops, Belgian dark sugar, and raw wildflower honey from a New York family farm to create Brooklyn Local 2. Our special Belgian yeast adds hints of spice to the dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavors. After 100% bottle re-fermentation, this ale reveals a marvelous dry complexity, enjoyable by itself or at the dinner table.

Aroma is apple, plum, Belgian candy sugar and rich sweet malts. Taste is again sweet roasted malts, dark fruits and light yeast notes. Slight bitter tang at finish but generally pretty smooth. Appearance is a very dark cloudy amber with a very nice medium pearl head that retains quite well.

Sampled at Northgate Tasting. Some serious carbonation problems with all of these bottles. SUPER carbonated, overflowing the sample cup and exploding in mouth. Not sure if a bad batch, but all of the bottles being sampled were like this.

Transfer from BA review on 3-21-14- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance The beer pours a mahogany brown color with two fingers of a tan colored head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell The aroma of the beer has a big strong dark fruity smell composed of some aromas of raisin, plum and red grapes. Along with these aromas are smells of yeast, which bring with them aromas of banana and a bit of a spice smell of clove and coriander. Other aromas of a honey sweetness as well as some orange and candied sugar are there as well, mixing with the rest, as well as a nice bready and lightly boozy smell, with overall produce a very pleasant fruity and sweet Belgian dark aroma. Taste While the taste begins rather sweet it is slightly drier then I was anticipating from the nose. It begins with a nice roasted malt taste mixed with lots of darker fruit flavors. The heaviest dark fruit flavor is that of a cherry taste, but other big raisin and plum flavors are mixed with it. Right from the start there are some other sweeter flavors of a more candied sugar and honey flavor as well. The darker fruit and candied/honey flavors fade a bit as the taste moves forward with some rather yeasty flavors taking their place. With the advent of the yeast, so too comes flavors banana as well as of spice with coriander, clove, and a little bit of nutmeg all there. These flavors meld quite nicely with the darker fruit flavors and darker roasted malt tastes creating a nice blend of spiced darer fruit and roast. With hints of a boozy alcohol coming to the tongue at the end, one is left with a nice crisp and smooth dark fruit and roasted flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is a bit thinner then I would have anticipated for a Belgian Strong dark of 9 % abv. with a carbonation level that is on the higher and more prickly champagne like side. Both are good for creating the nice crisp feel of the brew which complements the slightly drier nature (well for a Belgian Strong Dark at least) well, but yet the body still all the while has enough thickness and oomph to support all the darker flavors of the brew. Overall This was a very enjoyable Belgian Strong Dark in my opinion. A nice mix of fruitiness, roastiness, spice, and booze, all with a slightly drier and nice crispness and drinkability.

75 cl bottle from eurospar, valby. clear amber brown, smooth fluffy light brown head. aroma is nutty, bitter euro hoppy, bitter malty but not very strong.notes of honey. flavor is honey, syruppy notes, faint flowery and fruity notes, alc. bite, caramel. I somehow fail to get excited by this one, reminds me of the cheaper end of danish micro breweries and their attempts at making something alc. strong, but failing reg flavor and "solid" ness.

Belgian done Brooklyn is Belgian done right. Poured a murky dark brown with a small off white head that lasts long. Aroma is of grapes, plums, leather, and caramel. Tastes of vanilla, honey, dark sugar, vinous, and dark fruits. Has a medium smooth body with a dry, sharp aftertaste. It hides its booze well and is quite quaffable.

The Yanks are doing Belgian better than Belgium! A raisin-brown, cloudy pour with a thin, greasy light beige topper. Very pungent smells of vanilla, wood, leather, cherries, currants and caramel. The taste is lightly sour, sweet and spicy with a lot of dark fruitcake and vanilla frolicking amidst the booze. Mid-high carbonation with a sharp and dry finish. A fine quaff.

Bottle. Murky brown body with a thin tanned head. Aroma of malt, spices, yeast and honey. Taste of sugar, honey, rye and pear, a bit messy, seems the beer isnt sure where its going. Mild malty and hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a murky reddish-brown with a huge fluffy off-white head that lingers a long time. Light aroma, yeasty and sweet, with grass, citrus, honey, malt, spices. Taste is smooth and almost creamy, lots of honey sweetness, malt, dark fruits, and sharper spicy yeast on top. Lingering sweet spice. Nice.
