COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Here in Brooklyn we’ve combined European malt and hops, Belgian dark sugar, and raw wildflower honey from a New York family farm to create Brooklyn Local 2. Our special Belgian yeast adds hints of spice to the dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavors. After 100% bottle re-fermentation, this ale reveals a marvelous dry complexity, enjoyable by itself or at the dinner table.

Bottle From Jungle Jims. Poured clear brown color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sweet spicy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met with another of the top active bottled beers for style.

Bottle bought at a grocery store in Westchester Co. I was very surprised to see this considering it hasn’t appeared anywhere in the city yet. Dark brown pour with a very creamy light tan head that sticks around for a long time. Soft spicy aroma with a fairly prominent kick of clove, dried plums, cherries and a bit of cocoa. Really quite spicy on the nose with a lot of yeastiness and a soft doughy maltiness that is pretty nice. Warming really intensifies the sweet phenolic spiciness, but it doesn’t really get all that sweet. A bit of soft chewiness on the back of the palate. The flavour in this is really quite lovely and the palate is very rich and creamy without being overly sweet. Lingering bready doughiness with a touch of light orange and peach mixed with plums and a lightly dusty herbal/tobaccoish cocoa flavour. I wasn’t actually expecting all that much from this, but this is a very tasty, lean-bodied dark Belgian strong ale. This would pair very well with some darker stews. Can’t wait to see this in wider release as I can see having this one fairly often.

Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a large, frothy, well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity caramel malt with a good yeasty ester profile and touch of spices. Starts with good fullness and foamy carbonation with some rich dark caramel and milk chocolate sweetness balanced with mild citrus and peppery spice before a drier, toasty finish. True to style and enjoyable brew.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours with a tan head over a hazy brown body. Aroma of dark fruits, alcohol and a bit of spice. Taste is yeasty with coriander, dark fruits, alcohol and dried raisins. Dryish finish (probably due to the low F.G. left by using honey as a fermentable). Dry mouthfeel, light bubbles.

Sample from a 750ml bottle. Bottle conditioned, careful pour yields a faint haze in a dark brown body. Nose is dark candy sugar, clove, peppery, wheat, etc - some weizenbock characteristics present, even a small dose of banana. Smooth textured, some caramel and bran focused malts, maple sweetness. Mashed well, full body, little to no roughness, very polished. Good stuff.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2010 My Bottom Line:
Fruity and spicy yeast notes manage delicate chocolate and herbal hops in this authentic, nicely attenuated Belgian-style Strong Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy head of foam decorates the drak brown.
-This felt like Trois-Pistoles light at times, even though it’s pretty much the same abv.
-Some alcohol is felt, but it’s never bothersome.
-The important yeast character feels a tad vegetal at times.
-This is as well made as most Brooklyn products, but in the end, I didn’t feel compelled to go back for more. Local 1 was much more distinctive and satisfying, in my tastes.

Bottles.

750ml bottle (Kaisla, Helsinki)
6 Mixed up and messed up aroma. Very spicy.
4 Deep reddy brown, reasonable head.
5 Slightly ionic taste. Liquoricey and sweet.
2 Sticky texture, but astringent too. OK carbonation. Liquoricey finish.
9 Stodgy. Mixed up. Maybe needs a few years of mellowing?
