4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 wchesser (338) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 19, 2010
Great caramel malts. Reminds me of Chimay Blue, but I think I prefer this. Could see this going really well at the dinner table with spicy food, especially mole or Indian, due to the body and sweetness or with a pork loin or roasted chicken.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 rougeau13 (1217) - Texas, USA - OCT 4, 2011
Brown with a slight red hue and a big, creamy beige head. Aroma of citrus, pineapple and other sweet fruit, spice, cake, caramel and yeast. The taste is yeasty and moderately sweet with a solid bitterness and noticeable but not too heavy alcohol. Medium bodied, average carbonation, slightly dry. Good stuff, not too sweet, not too yeasty.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (772) - Michigan, USA - APR 9, 2012
750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled 3/16/2011. Pours very hazy dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some slight soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas of banana, raisin, plum, dark candi sugar, molasses, honey, orange peel, clove, pepper, and yeast spices. Nice and well balanced aromas with good strength and complexity. Taste of banana, raisin, prune, molasses, toasted biscuit, dark candi sugar, caramel, honey, orange peel, pepper, floral, earth, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, dark fruit, earth, orange peel, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming present on the finish. Very smooth to drink but is still a sipper. Overall this is an excellent Belgian dark ale. Tons of complexity and great flavor balance; and very smooth to sip on.

Bottle 75 cl. Poured dark brown colour with slightly tan head. Aroma is fruity, yeast and malt. Flavour is somewhat sweet, but in a good way in this case. Also some fruits like citrus, orange and raisin is detected combined with bready dark malt. Very smooth and enjoyable.

Bottle, courtesy kiefdog. Reddish bronze pour, fizzy head and lacing. Bright floral nose, some hops, yeasty and spicy. Very nice flavors, bright Belgian yeast, flowery sweetness, some chocolate. Spicy. Nice and crisp, sharp body, extremely drinkable.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Pastor (700) - Eliot, Maine, USA - MAR 26, 2009
I poured this 750 caged and corked bottle into to different glasses the first being a Duvel tulip It just didn’t work it produced a ton of white head way to much for the presentation stay away from that glass the second being a standard challis which really helped out it still had a nice two finger head that settled down to a thick lace. The body was a dark burgandy when held to the light.
The aromas coming from this brew are the typical Belgian yeasts dark fruits and a light alcohol heat. The flavors follow the nose is so much as the dark fruits are dominant in there. With the fruitiness of the yeast helping as well the mouth is to the light side of medium but the carbonation is great.
A great American Belgian dark I wouldn’t expect any less from Brooklyn brewery. Very drinkable and I will by this brew again

Bottle split at a tasting. Thick, unfiltered brown-tan. Mellow orange peel and brown chocolate aroma. Soft, excellent effervescence. Sort of like a Belgian Dubbel, with the some added orange peel notes. A tad sweet, but true to style I suppose. Soft and mellow fruit tones. Excellent.

Bottle shared by robert at SL. Muddy brown in color, good head. Nice aroma of spices. Taste is really nice...spices, fruity, malty, sugar sweetness, honey and some orange peel. Nice texture, low carbonation level. Really easy to drink. Overall a good beer that is worth buying. Thanks Robert for sharing

Bottle at Ølfestivalen poured by Garett Oliver himself.
Brown with good head.
Malty, Abbey ale-ish but without the dusty tree taste. Lovely beer.
