7/21/2011: Brooklyn Main Engine Belgian Pale... Aroma: Belgian spice; candi sugar; fruit (pear?). Appearance: Big, dense ivory head; beer is golden in color and hazy. Flavor: Less spice, more hoppiness; quite dry. Palate: Medium-light body; soft and airy; cask-like mouthfeel. Overall: Just okay; I’m so over Belgian Pales and IPAs!
Draught (6.2% ABV) at Revolution in Chicago, IL. Rating #98 for this beer.

Poured a dark clear amber. Nose is fruity with Belgian yeast. Metallic over powering front. Settles in to a decent Belgian style. Quite dry with decent yeast flavors. Without the metallic it would be quite nice, otherwise it’s decent

April 12, 2012 - draught at Cole’s shared with biegaman. Clear refractive amber-gold with a small wispy white head. Smells sweet and Belgian, blond and grainy - meh yeast and spice - it’s a little fusel and sharp. Taste is not bad, cleaner, still sweet but better balanced and apart from a little straw character it’s inoffensive. Watery, weakly carbonated, a little dryness in the aftertaste ... not all that good, sadly.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On draft at Rustico in Alexandria, VA.
The beer appears a dark orange to light brown color with a wee bit of white head that yields minimal lacing. The nose brings a subtle dose of hops along with mild yeast and spice aromas. I found the flavor lacking the special qualities that make a delicious Belgian pale ale. The hop presence was just too bland and muted. Additionally, the aromatic yeast strain I so thoroughly enjoy was barely detectable. The beer really came across as conservative and average. The feel was medium / thin and felt about right for the style, though again, the flavor left me wanting more. Overall, I found the beer unoffensive, but bland and unexciting.

Aroma has some faint citrus, the yeast seems to be very noticable. Flavor is sweet, hint of spice from yeast, a bit of citrus and grain. Finished crisp and clean, easy drinking, nice to have this kind of beer, an abbey single. I don’t see these that often.

Tasted on 8/3/11 on draft at Revolution. Pours hazy dark orange with a thick, rocky white head that slowly recedes to a thin, even layer of lace. The nose is dusty with an interesting bitter quality, spicy belgian yeast, and a red apple aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet with some caramel malt up front, moving to spicy yeast and some apple peel bitterness and tannin. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long bitter and tannic apple peel finish.
