Cloudy amber color. I can’t find any point in this bold but extremely boring Ale, with nutty finish and strong bitterness.

From the Bottle at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center Denver 17/09/2010 Floral and fruity aroma. Bronze coloured a little hazy in appearance and strong in alcohol. Initially sweet on the palate with a hint of dryness and bitterness in a lasting malt finish.

@Zero Gravity Flatbread–on tap-pours a light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, fruit-banana/peach/mango, some spice. Taste is nutmeg, apple/cherry, medium malt, yeast. Interesting and kind of disjointed.

Draft… Clear, very dark ruby ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is fruity and spicy – almost perfumey – rye, berries, crusted port and a trace of espresso. Medium to full-bodied and oily with stinging carbonation. Sweet, spicy and fruity. Vinous crusted port, malted barley and rye spiciness roll heavily across my palate. Lightly acidic. Hops? I just don’t know. Sweet, vinous, berry finish. Odd, but pretty tasty, interesting and certainly original.

Growler shared by shigadeyo. Poured hazy dark ruby color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Medium to heavy spice, wood, vanilla and cherry aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy rye sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex interesting beer.

On tap at Bukowskis, Boston, 15 October 2009. Very handsome dark brown appearance with a generous cream head. Lots of spices. Cinnamon to the fore. Also vanilla. Despite the fact I am not a huge fan of spices in a beer they didn’t detract too much on this occasion. Rich and tasty but just a bit sweet for my taste.

On tap at Capones. Poured a deeper reddish/brown color with a small sized white head. Aromas of rye, cinnamon, and yeasty. Tastes of yeastiness, fruity, spices, lighter rye, and some tart cherries.

Tap at Studio Square. Slightly hazy, orange amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is absolutely loaded with spicy rye, both the grain and the spirit. A touch of light oakiness and a pronounced peppery spiciness. There is a great herbal component that is lightly sweet. It has a note that reminds me of the sweet gale that sometimes appears in gruit. There is a kiss of barrel flavour and a touch of vanilla and toasted oak. Spicy rye through the middle with a little bit of floral/herbal flavour retronasally. A little bit of light fruitiness. As it warms up there is just a touch of cherry on the back... man, this is one of the best of these Brewmaster’s Reserve series, and that isn’t faint praise. I’m a sucker for a well-made Manhattan and these guys have nailed what they were trying to do... I’ll be drinking this fairly regularly as long as they keep making it.

On-tap at Cole’s, this black but yeasty beer had a white Caesar head. Stout in aroma and white lace followed. Rich and chocolate in finish, with median mouthfeel. The herbs and rye gave this a sweet, and spicy, taste profile.
