Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Clear dark copper, almost no head. Poured one giant bubble that sat for a minute. Big caramel nose, notes of alcohol, slightly smoky. Flavor is big on alcohol, mcuh like rubbing alcohol, almost nothing else.

Courtesy of Skyview. Copper color with a thin head. Light fruity aroma. Big, thick, chewy malt flavor. Plenty of caramel and toasted malts. A little unexpected roasted malt as well. Not much in the way of noticeable hops, but it did not seem overly sweet, either.

2004 vintage bottle (Consumed oct-08) As the commercial description above reads it has aged well and this aged one is a lot more enjoyable than a fresh one.

Pours a coppery color with thin white head. Aroma is malty and cidery. Flavor is big malty, sweet, and noticeable alcohol on the aftertaste. Some wine characteristics there too. Body is heavy with low-medium carbonation.

12oz, it surprise me I haven’t rated this. This bottle is from 2005, and I needed something small to the end the night as my stomach is telling me its time to slow down on the eating and drinking for the evening. Pours orange with a tan head. Nose is sweet with a touch of lemon rinds. Mouthfeel is prickly on the tongue. Taste is rich with hints of dark fruits and faded hops that once provided more than the bitterness thats left in tihs. Not bad.

Bottle from 2006. dark amber pour, looks like a bitter. Aroma of alcohol, brandy, cherries, caramel malt, and a touch of hops. The flavor of booze hits you right in the face, then comes some more of those sweet cherry/brandy flavors. Finished semi bitter, and a touch sweet. Meh, not a big fan of this, i was expecting more of an american barley wine, but looks like i got an english barley wine with too much booze.
