| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 22, 2008 Bottle: Pours a nice amber with no head and very little lacing [snifter is the way to go!]. The smell is a subtle blend of sherry and molasses. There is a sweet scent with a prevalent alcohol nose. My first sip washed my tongue in a sweet cereal goodness with hardly any notice to the strength of the alcohol. It finishes with a nice bready aftertaste that makes you want more. This is a dangerously drinkable beer for something with over 10% ABV so be warned! I would pretty much kill to try this on tap. This is a very strong offering and a purchase I will be making again! hirigalzkar (563), Stockholm, Sweden

The smell is hoppy with dried fruits (raisins). Hops and sweetnes (too sweet) dominates the flavor. Not as good as i remembered it.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 19, 2008 bottle. Pours a light brown with a small, dissipating head. Smells like cotton candy, vanilla shaved ice, bubble gum and malt. Interesting. Initial flavor is actually quite woody and malty. I tasted some nutty flavors along with a fairly intense sweetness from caramel malt. This transitions abruptly into an alcoholic drink with some candied fruit and sugar. These flavors come on a bit suddenly, though not altogether offensive. Finishes full bodied and mouth coating, with a noticeable alcoholic warmth going down your throat. Good for cold winter days, but my impression is that this beer is too young, and inadequately balanced for the ABV. KnutAlbert (3115), Oslo, Norway
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2008 Clear mahogny, slow bubbles rising. Full malty strength, like an oaky red wine. Dried fruit - riaisns, prunes, apricots. Warming alcohol. Lots of hops, too, the bitterness balances the brew, which means it does not end up on the cloyingly sweet side. A perfect nightcap. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2008 Brewed in 2007. Clear copper, thin beige head. Extravagantly sweet aroma - tons of caramel and toffee, plus hints of vanilla and eventually some prune or something like that. Flavor is decidedly less sweet - the caramel and toffee are there, but so is a bourbonny note and more alcohol heat than I was expecting from the aroma. Some crisp peppery notes, too. There are some fruity notes as it warms. Pretty enjoyable overall . thickfreakness (130), AUSTIN, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2008 Thanks to Tayner for this extra. Pours a dark amber with an off white head that lasts for a while and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Caramel, vanilla, raisins, biting alcohol, and citrus on the nose. Flavor is caramel and citrus with some raisin and booze. Slight bit of oxidized (cardboard) flavor. A nice citrus hoppy finish. Prickly carbonation and a medium to syrupy body. A decent barleywine. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 31, 2008 Deep reddish colour, small off white head. Fruity warming spicy malty aroma.
Flavor, citrus, pine some maltiness a very warming after taste. A very well rounded unassuming barley wine that growes on you the more you drink of it. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
