Another very berry wine and liquor like malty pallet pleaser. Blend of dark fruits, hops, grains and a well rounded sipper. Really not finding the citrus in this and the ABV was comfortably mellow. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 18, 2008 33 cl bottle - Dark amber colored beer with a disappearing off white to yellow head. Aroma is very sweet malty with notes of ripe apple, dark rum, some brandy and some caramel. One of the best smelling beers I’ve had. Flavor is a little less sweet and fruity than the aroma, but with stronger hints of caramel. Cascade hops are quite apparent and whilst combined with the maltiness leaves you in a state of wanting more. Slight alcohol flavor hides behind the great maltiness. At the inexpensive price I regret not buying more. Extremely price worthy and greatly balanced Barley wine! Well done Brooklyn! markwise (1175), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 17, 2008 This is a very smooth barley wine. It pours an amber/ copper color with a small amount of head. Aroma is that of sweet sherry, alcohol and dark fruit. It warms as it goes down and the hops are just enough to let you know they’re there, but not overwhelming. The alcohol presence is noticeable. One of the better BW’s I’ve tried. mcmd (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Pours red copper, almost no head. Aroma all alcohol and sweet malt. Taste of straight sugar, alcohol, caramel, toffee, a touch of hops. Mouthfeel thin for a barley wine. Disappointed with this one. I have another bottle that I will not open for a long time to give it the benefit of the doubt. mullet2007 (205), St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Bottle thanks to dchmela, "Born in 2007" the bottle claims. Pours a deep brown to orange color, sort of cloudy with a nice tan head. Nose is sweet dark fruits and some faint alcohol. Flavour is similar, dark fruits, like raisins, and maybe some cherry-ish notes. There is a fair bit of hop bitterness there as well. It’s pretty sweet and smooth, although there is some alcohol apparent in the flavour. It is pretty creamy and smooth, and carbonation is low, but nice. On the whole, it’s not too bad, but the alcohol comes through a little bit too much perhaps. deliciosity (4), USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Nice amber color. Small head with little lacing, but this is to be expected with a barley wine. Smells of malts, light citrus, mild alcohol, hops, and sherry. Strong caramel malt flavor with a lingering bitterness from the fuggles hops. Fairly smooth for a hoppy barely wine. Should age excellently. I have to say, this is much better than I expected from a company that I would have never expected to put out a barley wine. doppelmeup (51), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2008 Poured a light amber, orange color. Not a lot of foam, but appropriate for the style. Leaves slight lacing.
Not a strong aroma. Slightly malty, very slight hops, slight alcohol.
Very Smooth taste. Nice malty backbone, some hops to flavor but not overpowering. Well balanced. High ABV is well hidden.
Mouthfeel is warm, very slight carbonation. Alcohol warms as it goes down, but not overpowering.’
All in all, this is a reallly nice example of an English style Barley Wine. IMO, this is by far the best beer in the Brooklyn Variety Pack, with the Dark Chocolate Stout a close second.

Ripe fruits , toasted dark malts and alcohol in the aroma. Taste is fairly dry malts with a strong citric/piny hopbitterness and an evident alcohol burn. Big body. Long malty-bitter finish. Rough and tasty.
