sensory first impression: Aroma is dense - a bit chocolatey, very malty. I’m swooning. An amber pour to a ruby red body with a tan off white head. Aroma of sweet wine is very nice. Wow - knocks you over the head with alcohol. Velvety and rich. A little too rich for me I think, but it’s a wonderfully full experience. Angry red color is foretelling.

Overall experience: 16 out of 20. I liked the utter power of it, the color, and the aroma. I did not like how overwhelmingly sweet and alcoholic it was. It’s not for everyday, but it’s something very special. I’ll have it again when I’m eating something I need to balance the flavor of. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Apr 1, 2008 12oz bottle, no pour. Aromas of malt, citrus, and dark fruits. Flavors are well rounded with malt, sugars, and a somewhat strong hop finish. Couldn’t even taste the 10.8abv in this one. DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Mar 30, 2008 Amber brown, clear, modest almond head. Rich toffee comes first, some boozey bourbon quality as well, a hint of orange peel, and a fair bit of hops in the finish. Faintly metallic quality, and a rather strong alcoholic warmth (bordering on burn, thus bordering on harsh) in the finish as well. Could stand to lay down for a while I suspect. JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada Mar 30, 2008 one of the better barley wines i have tried so far pours a coppery colour smooth finish with alc. bite to it but very enjoyable hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA Mar 27, 2008 ’07 Bottle. Dark copper with small off white head. Aroma: toffee, malt, hops. Taste: a delicious caramel malty sweetness with some dark fruits and just a tinge of hops. I prefer this style to the hoppier barley wines. Would love to try this after a couple years in the cellar. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 26, 2008 ’07 Bottle: Pours a translucent ruby/amber color with pretty much no head. Aroma is a blend of sweet malts, raisins, plums and some caramel...not much of a pronounced hop profile. Nice, medium-full body, very smooth and silky. Sweet, dry, soft caramel notes dominate which consists of some dark fruits and a mild hop background. Good stuff. Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pours a nice auburn color with a small head. The aroma is nice. I was expecting a knock me over alcohol smell but it wasn’t there - I mean it was there but it didn’t knock me over. Smells very spicey and pit like sherry. Rather smooth for a barley wine, much more so than the Big Foot in my opinion. I am going to save a few to see how ages - I imagine it will get much better. jrmac (210), USA Mar 26, 2008 Vintage 2007. Beer poured a reddish orange color with a standard head of about an inch. citrus aromas with a touch of port or sherry. On the palate it is thick like honey, with great flavors malt and citrus. I don’t know what else to say but go try one today.
