COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2014 Good looking beer with a raisin and brown sugar aroma. Full body with ample bread, toasted, and other biscuit malts. Very little sweetness or toffee like flavors. Alcohol was present and drying.

Poured from a 355mL bottle (2012 vintage). Clear copper brown with minimal off-white head. Aroma is boozy caramel malt, some mild dark stone fruits and nuts. Flavour is pretty much the same, the booze and nuts come through more, plus a little chocolate. Medium-Full body.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; 2009 vintage, bottled on 11/16/2009. Pours moderately cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, brown sugar, bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and fruity yeast notes; with decent strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, toast, brown sugar, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, raisin, plum, date, pear, apple, brown sugar, toast, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick and slightly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good English Barleywine. All around good balance and complexity of malt and fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

(2012) Bottle. This is quite a big beer, full on flavours with a boozy kick to boot... it will certainly warm you up! Sharp complex aroma with strong acidic and floral notes which follows through with sweet barley upfront, strong floral and sweet hop notes, slight boozyness on the back of the tongue. A big toned beer!

Color: nice amber beer with medium carbonation with medium ivory head. Smell: malt and caramel balance with brown sugar cane. Taste: really tasteful, amazing balance of malt and sugar. Aftertaste: some alcohol note with malt and sugar balance.

Deep amber pour, little cloudy, thick controlled head. Beautiful malt on the nose. Chewy sweet. Middle is mild but deep malt. Alcohol is well managed. Beautiful molasses finish.
