Kirill (264), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 6, 2008 good barley, not my style but quite hoppy and with some fine sweet tastes in the palate lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Feb 4, 2008 Pours attractive copper color with small off-white head that disappears quickly. Extremely boozy aroma with notes of citrus, sherry, caramel malts. Really fruity flavor- almost reminds me of a fruit roll up... except with a lot of alcohol. Slight citrus, caramel malts, some nice spice and a bitter finish. I usually don’t detract much for alcohol presence, but this brew seems to have gotten away from Brooklyn. Palate is sticky and a little unpleasant. Overall, however, not a terrible barleywine. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 3, 2008 12oz from 2007. Man, do I like this stuff fresh. I think this is underrated. To me, it’s a very nice hybrid of an English style bw - with mellow caramel malts dominating, with some soft port overtones - and an aggressive American hop hellion. Certainly comes on a bit more strongly in the latter category when young, but not at the expense of the former. Citrus, heat, and toffee: a nice, strong combo. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 1, 2008 Copper with nice off white head. Aroma is scotch and lots of booze with a touch of spice. Right from the beginning there is a strong alcohol presence with not enough flavour to balance it out. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Jan 31, 2008 2006 Bottle. Strong fruity malt aroma. Clear amber orange color with some white foam. Sweet and slightly bitter taste. Bitterness fades in the finish and builds in body. Medium palate. yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Jan 30, 2008 I have had this so many times and never rated. Lately I have had a few vintages, 98, 99, 04 and fresh ones. I do like the fresh ones but the vintages are great. So delicious, mellow and sweet. Lost the hops but the fruit flavor and alcohol are still really nice. Still a pretty solid BW even fresh, prefer it aged a bit. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Jan 29, 2008 this beer looks good...light hoppy aroma, malts and bread....taste of hops...malts and caramel...tingly on the tongue.....BIG alcohol in the finish that lingers for a few minutes ...lots of good qualities but the alcohol taste is over the top....I could use a little bit of a mellower finish zootfinster (179), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2008 A really enjoyable beer. Redish pour/ Nice head, sweet citric malty flavor. Finish stayed for a good while..
Very enjoyable overall
