Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

2006 Bottle. Strong fruity malt aroma. Clear amber orange color with some white foam. Sweet and slightly bitter taste. Bitterness fades in the finish and builds in body. Medium palate.

I have had this so many times and never rated. Lately I have had a few vintages, 98, 99, 04 and fresh ones. I do like the fresh ones but the vintages are great. So delicious, mellow and sweet. Lost the hops but the fruit flavor and alcohol are still really nice. Still a pretty solid BW even fresh, prefer it aged a bit.

this beer looks good...light hoppy aroma, malts and bread....taste of hops...malts and caramel...tingly on the tongue.....BIG alcohol in the finish that lingers for a few minutes ...lots of good qualities but the alcohol taste is over the top....I could use a little bit of a mellower finish

This beer I wasn’t crazy about, it was alright, but I don’t think I would drink it again, I’m not a big fan of barley wines, but that may be that I just haven’t tried enough of them yet.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is malty, caramel, and alcohol. Initial flavor malty, bread, and slightly fruity sweet. Aftertaste is dominated by alcohol and only a small hint of hops. Medium to full body, almost no lacing or carbonation, and obvious alcohol. Drinkable if you like the barleywine style, limited otherwise.

The color was medium red. The head was creamy, thin, and white. The aroma was citris, sweet, and some hopps. The flavor was aged, musty, sweet, and hopps. Something was off in the flavor though. The palate was average. The finish was abrupt.
