gabbama (115), Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, USA Dec 11, 2007 Sweet aroma of alcohol, caramel, and ripe fruit. Flavor is a bit medicinal. Malty with notes of licorice, ripe fruits, and warm alcohol. And as advertised, it does go excellent with a good dark cigar. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Dec 7, 2007 12 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Deep dark amber with quickly receding head. Aroma of alcohol, and pine tar. All the recognizeable flavors of a barleywine (raisiny fruit, toasted caramel, piney lingering bitterness) in their harshest form. Alcoholic and astringent. Full-medium body and medium carbonation. An impressive, intimidating, and mostly unpleasant example of the style. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Dec 7, 2007 Tasting at Bruisin Ales; 2004, 2005 and 2007 vintages. Clear amber with a small head. Sherry, caramel, and wood in the aroma. Flavors are the same. I think I actually liked the 2007 better than the aged bottles, seemed somehow denser and not as sweet, but maybe because it was the last of the three tasted. Nice winter warmer, but alcohol a bit too noticeable for my tastes. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2007 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a small off-white head that fades to a ring and leaves good lacing. Aroma of alcohol, sherry, caramel, light citrus, and lightly medicinal. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and warm but never hot alcohol. A little young but very good. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Nov 28, 2007 12oz. bottle 2006. Pours a dark clean copper with a small head and medium lasting carbonation. Aroma is medicinal malts, ripened boozy fruits, sweet hops. Flavor is candied malts, licorice, fermented fruit, light smoke. It has a touch of tartness and bitterness and the mouthfeel is thick and rich. Very nice. dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Nov 19, 2007 2006 version 12 bottle. Pours a clear reddish/orange with a small of white head. Aroma is slightyl sweet yet rather dry with floral notes, boozy and some biscuit. Medium bodied with nice carbonation and a very dry finish. Flavor of alcohol, biscuit and a slight touch of grapes. This beer isn’t good or bad it’s just a little to plain in the flavor and aroma to really sway me either way. GRM (1235), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Nov 16, 2007 Sample, at the Mondial de la bière, savoured June 2 2006; eye: amber with golden reflections, no effervescence; nose: hops, caramel; mouth: light bitterness, caramel, finale is similar, medium body, lightly carbonated

Poured a brownish auburn with a thin layer of off white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, alcohol and flowers. For me this tasted like a standard barleywine; did not distinguish itself. Malt centered flavor with some hops and spice in the finish. Slightly sweet. Mouthfeel was not great for the style. Slightly above average for the style.
