Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Bottle@Akkurat, Stockholm: Aroma of caramel, vanilla and fresh, bitter hops. Buttery flavour has alcohol, apricots and burnt sugar followed by hops that stay mainly in the aftertaste. Wouldn’t mind them a bit more assertive.

Pours dark reddish amber with a fully receding off white head. Aroma of sherry, plums, and sweet fruits. Taste is thick, sticky with caramel, plums, and caramelized toffee. Mouthfeel is full to heavy bodied and slightly sticky with soft carbonation.

Tap @ Canterbury Ales, Huntington, NY. Pours a deep orange with a tan-colored head. The aroma is fruit, with a little spice as well. Taste was largely caramel with some citrus notes as well. Alcohol very prominent from the beginning and became even more prominent as the beer warmed up. A decent barleywine, but nothing special.

Thanks for sharing, weepie. A 2004 vintage bottle drank in 2007. The body was dark copper with a light khaki colored head. The aroma was sherry with some oxidation and cherries. The taste was old toffee with a little bit of caramel. There was also some interesting orange character. The finish had lots of alcohol. A decent barleywine.

Had this aged at least a couple of years. Pour was murky medium brown with fizzy off white head. Aroma is big heavy malt with some syrup. Aged its really tasty, like to try it fresh.

i bought this i thought it was just a killer ale but instead it was a barley wine with crazy alcohol pretending to be an ale. really its pretty good but its just so overwhelming with alcohol you cant really taste it.
