Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Fruit aroma with a toasted caramel taste a thin mouthfeel. Warm finish on this big ale. Pours copper with a cream head. A solid barley wine.

First of all, this didn’t drink much like a barley wine, so I won’t rate it as one. The initial flavour was of roasted malt and caramel with some nuts, that all together smells a bit like roasted coffee and caramelized toffee. There is a presence of dark fruits in the flavour, too. The hops weren’t as pronounced as expected. They appear mostly in the finish, which is very bitter and metallic. The body was a tad thin for a barley wine called "moster ale."

Flaske. 2005. lidt skum der hurtigt forsvinder. Uklar ravfarvet. En smule metallisk i duften, men smagen er god og har en fin balance i forhold til alkoholen.

this beer seem like a JV version of what a barley wine should be. the malts seem a little thin, the hops have pine flavor to them. their is some decent caramel flavors as well as a touch of nuts. Update 4/30/08 gave it another try it mellowed out nicely it does some character.

Bottle@Akkurat, Stockholm: Aroma of caramel, vanilla and fresh, bitter hops. Buttery flavour has alcohol, apricots and burnt sugar followed by hops that stay mainly in the aftertaste. Wouldn’t mind them a bit more assertive.

Pours dark reddish amber with a fully receding off white head. Aroma of sherry, plums, and sweet fruits. Taste is thick, sticky with caramel, plums, and caramelized toffee. Mouthfeel is full to heavy bodied and slightly sticky with soft carbonation.
