Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Born in 2006: bottle, nose of cherries and berries, sweeter smelling than most barlewines; clear light brown witha small off white head; taste of some fruit (berries) and some hop bitterness; doesn’t compare to the Drakes Bourbon Barrel Barleywine I had earlier today!

Bottle. Dark malt nose with alcohol and very sweet and somewhat vinous fruity notes (berry, cherry, raisin) and very light hops. Amber body with a beige-brown head and significant carbonation. Tasted malt is hard and pretzelous. Sugary but not overly sweet, darkened by those light hops and caramel. Alcohol is harsh and the carbonation does not help. Taste did not match the aroma. Warming boozy finish with dark, dry bready malt. Earthy, chewy, medium-full body is somewhat syrupy but maintains relative softness. Raw, unfinished.

This is a big beer. Very astringent, can probabaly substitute for mouth wash. However, I know some people who really like this stuff, dont know why.

Pours a deep amber color with a little white head. Aroma of malts, dark fruits and alcohol. Flavor is caramel malts hops with some spices. This might be better with a little more age

Pours a opaque brown color with a slight head. Very weak in taste compared to other barley wines. You can definetly taste the carmel and raisens. Not a strong oak flavor either. but is more bitter than others. Not my favorite.

Hard stuff. Bitter as hell, but you come to like it after that first taste. I’d get more of this, maybe try aging it.

A very thick, sweet, beer. Lots of raisins and caramel, with a brandy like quality and hints of port. Did I mention this was quite sweet, with some alcohol in the finish. Intensly rich and malty, quite a big beer. Overwhelming in relation to the other Brooklyns I’ve had.

Nose of alcohol & fruit, gives way to grains & caramel as the brew warms. The brew pours sparkling copper with amber highlights. The average off-white tight & creamy head is mostly lasting and leaves light lace. The start is sweet with a delectable zing in the middle. The long savy finish is to be thoroughly enjoyed all the way home. The full body is soft & dry.
