Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

A decent barley wine by Brooklyn. Everything was just there but not great...the malty/fruity aroma. The taste of caramel and malt with syrupy mouthfeel. The sweet aftertaste that did not linger. Not bad but there are better out there

Sherry flavors, very much like an average wine, but with a little hop bite. Just bland and uninteresting

Not too sweet, but alcohol very strong in taste. Decent hop profile---but much less than BigFoot. Amber color, medium body.

Amber red body with a small ring of foam. Fruity aroma at the begining and more hoppy at the finish. Small notes of citrus and syrup gets more bitter at the middle. Very thick in the mouth almost like syrup. The finish is very caremely.

2005 vintage. Copper-red pour with little to no head. Malty aroma that becomes more wine-like and fruity when warmed. Big taste, moderately sweet and big on dried fruit. Some cherry and red-grapes. Alcohol is noticeable but muted for 11%. Pretty interesting. Pretty darn good, in fact.

Was unaware that is was a barleywine, so was surprised when I tasted it. Haven’t had enough experience with Barleywines to give it justice. Probably would have liked it more with a different food pairing (other than pizza)

Pours a hazy darker amber with little to no head. Very nice floral, sweet malty smell to it although it was quite mellow. Pretty sweet taste with anice bite to it, although it does smooth out near the finish. I get some darker citrus and sweet malts in there as well. Alcohol is pretty prominent in this one. Would love for them to mask that a little better, but this is name monster ale so maybe thats the intention.

Bottle. Deep amber/copper coloring with an off white small head that diminished quick. Faint nose of yeast, malt and hint of orange rind. Flavor was soft with a kick of peppery spice crispiness. Lingering malty aftertaste.
