Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Nice. It pours a deep reddish copper with a fizzy off-white that lasts none too long and creates a slippery wall of lacing. The aroma is rich and malty, sweet with fruit (apples, pears...), but has an slight, annoying metallic touch. The flavor is sweet, malty, and fruity with a balancing grapefruit and citric zest bitterness. The finish is mildly bitter with a subtle alcohol burn. Very good winter warmer.

28-02-2007 Bottle. None excising head. Not much lacing. Color was nutty brown and nice looking. Body was slightly clear and sparkling. Aroma was fruit, alcohol, caramel, apples, bananas and in the beginning some metallic notes as well. As it warmed up, the metallic notes disappeared. Full bodied with an alcoholic texture and a soft carbonation. Flavor was sweet with well balancing burned bitterness. Nice and complex Barley Wine! But not the best I have had.

07-06-2007 Bottle. [Tasting session with BierKönig, thanks for a great evening Jeppe. Vintage 2004 ] The vintage had diffently improved the overall impresson of this beer I must say. It seamed much more balanced. Rating 4-8-8-3-15. We could compare it with a Vintage 2004 North Coast Old Stock Ale, and I thought the Old Stock was a bit better.

Bottle 2005. Nice lamber colour with an average lasting head. Dark caramel brown colored body. Sweet aroma with a nice touch of malts and hops. The flavour is very bombastic with the alc. quite a bit dominating along with malty caramel and some bitter hops. Nice Barley one for the cold evenings!

A decent barley wine by Brooklyn. Everything was just there but not great...the malty/fruity aroma. The taste of caramel and malt with syrupy mouthfeel. The sweet aftertaste that did not linger. Not bad but there are better out there

Sherry flavors, very much like an average wine, but with a little hop bite. Just bland and uninteresting

Not too sweet, but alcohol very strong in taste. Decent hop profile---but much less than BigFoot. Amber color, medium body.

Amber red body with a small ring of foam. Fruity aroma at the begining and more hoppy at the finish. Small notes of citrus and syrup gets more bitter at the middle. Very thick in the mouth almost like syrup. The finish is very caremely.
