OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Apr 8, 2009 [Bottle] Pours red with a good beige head. Aroma is strong of alcohol, nuttiness, and strawberry jam. Something medicinal is also in there that is off-putting for me. I know this is a fairly fresh bottle, but it was too hot for me in the taste. A little sweetness shows through as well, along with solid malt in the finish. Good mouthfeel. My biggest complaint with this is the out-of-control alcohol in the taste, and hopefully that would die down with some age. I’ll try to get around to rating an aged bottle at some point to see if there is improvement. daknole (2801), Plantation, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours an amber color wtih a smallish tan head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy. I certainly could smell the sherry in this one along with some woody notes and some caramel and fruit. Flavor was really well balanced. The hops played well with the caramel, dark fruit and brown sugar notes. Good mouthfeel. A very easy to drink beer and the ABV could sneak up on you big time! j12601 (1149), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Apr 5, 2009 Bottle of the 2007 at Bacchus. Pours a deep clear brownish amber with a thin to medium beige head. Plum, stone fruit, prune, and sweet malt on the nose. Still a little hot, medium bodied and sticky. Good soft carbonation comprised of small fine bubbles. Finishes with a touch of alcohol and a bit of fruity malt. shawnm213 (875), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2009 not your typical barley wine. more sour, less malty. copper color, and 10.8 percent alcohol. worth trying. not my favorite barley wine though Changed (161), Ithaca, New York, USA Mar 27, 2009 12oz bottle dated 2008. Pours dark copper. Low carbonation, little lacing. Call me crazy, but the aroma is that of bleu cheese, and the taste?... BLEU CHEESE. I’m not sure how I feel about all this. Other than the cheesiness, this beer is sweet. I really can’t get past this funk. Might have to try another bottle. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 27, 2009 2008 Bottle. Copper pour, tawny head, fair amount of lace. Malty toffee nose, caramel, huge malt flavor with sweet caramel and alcohol balanced by a mildly hoppy finish. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 24, 2009 2006 bottle, thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Nice ruby red body with a medium yellow head. No visible carbonation. Aroma: Malt, hops, perfume and alcohol. Flavour: Malt, chewy, hops, alcohol, leather with deep over-ripe plums, port, oak and barley. So much going on. Like the commercial description says I could imagine accompanying this with a cigar.
