COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Bottle - 2011 Vintage - Sweet caramel, molasses and dark fruits. Clear mahogany with a persistent off white head. Brown sugar, initial sweetness that gets to a bit of bitterness and finishes with alcohol and heat. Flavor of ripened red fruits and brown sugar again. Finish is a bit cloying. A big beer, that is better shared.

From a bottle. Dangerously smooth with a peaty malt finish, this is a monster for sure, watch out.

On draft at madfox it is a golden amber color with slight head. The aroma is a sherry and the taste is a sweet flavor that resonates bitter sweet in the finish

Bottle. Hallamshire House, Sheffield. 2012. Clear amber. Halo of white head. Big, sweet, caramel malts. Dried vine fruits. Fairly boozy. Hint of banana esters. It’s big, but not necessarily complex. Taste is dry. Light sweet. Some bitterness at the end. Chewy, full palate. Finishes boozy, long dry, and light bitter. Decent, especially with a piece of peanut butter chocolate cake...

2010 vintage on tap at the Petrol Station. Somewhat hazy burnt orange with its own inner glow. Small off white foamy cap. Big nose of a slightly metallic bite but also lots of copper malt and fruity ester toast. Big malty flavor of almond and toast and some light tree fruit esters and booze. Not very sticky but it has a very slight metallic twang at the end but it’s still enjoyable. Nice boldness yet quaffable. Lots of light toffee malt and almond tones.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- 2012 bottle. Hazy dark amber with a thin rim head, thin streamers of lace. Mild aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is strong dark toasted malt with fruit cake candied fruit and light spice that becomes only moderately hopped on the swallow, with the malt taking over again for a long finish. Big, bold, very tasty, but a lot to deal with. Recommended.

A few years vintage. Into a snifter at cellar temperature. Misted, chestnut orange, still with no head after a short settle. There is plump, pale stonefruit and caramelised citrus on the nose along with notes of pear, Sauvignon grapes, sherry, soft alcohol spice. On the palate it is sherryish, vinous, boozy and slightly buttery with enough caramelised fruit to keep it lifted. Sweet, fortified notes, Muscat and Moscato, dwindle long between heated sips. Light perfume. Moderate carbonation shifts its medium body along nicely. Slow sipping stuff, but nothing complex here. Wanted more as I love this brewery. (35,5cL, BBE 11/14, Mane Liquor, Belmont)
