COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Dark red pour, cascades from 12oz bottle, medium head. Beautifully complex, full of malt and hop which lingers on the palate.

Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma is caramel, fig and alcohol. Thick and a bit sticky. Flavor is full and complex with fig, oak, and alcohol being dominant. Finish is sweet, but not cloying. Excellent.

Has a nice fruity aroma... Fruity/citric initial taste with a wine style after taste. A good after dinner beer. ---cdeutz

Coppery color with an off-white head with medium lasting. Aroma is strong malty, marzipan and candy sugar. Flavor is caramel malts, very sweet but no cloyed, plumbcake hints and marzipan. The final is sweet, creamy and dense on palate.

Pours dark red with tan head that fades pretty quick. Aroma is buttered toast, earthy, winey. Taste is really malty with a little red wine character, with a surprising amount of hops. Would be interesting to try a sample that was more than 6 months old.

Draft at crunchys. Dark gold. Didn’t knock my socks off by any means. But decent body and a short finish. Some toffee and Carmel.

Poured into goblet per bottle instructions. Hazy’ish orange-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of heavy malt sweetness, some fruit, toffee and alcohol. Taste adds notes of chocolate, light hops; with dark fruit and booziness kind of giving a wine quality at the end. Heavy body, average carbonation, complex, chewy, warming with a sticky sweet finish. Like others a little alcohol hot and missing some depth. Maybe some age will add to this, good thing I have more bottles.

Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler. Pours an orangish amber though more transparent than translucent as most other barleywines tend to be. Aroma is very limited with bitter hop notes coming through along with some barrel. Flavor is very hop forward with a deep line of bitterness, followed by some alcohol and finished off with some sweet caramel notes. The palate is where it should be for the style, slightly sticky and just heavy enough to be felt. Overall this is an American style Barleywine and it shows off it’s hops but lacks a lot of other defining factors; with some age this might develop some character. Too bad I don’t have another bottle to find out.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen drank at home, shared with Dutchdrebus. Hazy red to dark amber color, small white to off - white head that diminishes pretty quickly. Smell malts, sweetness, leaves and some alcohol. Taste malts, some sweetness, lightly alcohol, some hops. Medium to full body, medium to full carbonation. Very nice beer!
