Nose is heavy on the raisins, significant malt backbone, strong sherry, a bit of citrus to round it out. Taste is similar, with heavy vinous notes. Alcohol is only really detectable in the last two or three sips. Quite enjoyable. lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden

This monster was born in 2005, so was around a year in the bottle before I unleashed it. Has a distinctly meaty smell upon first pouring - like crumbled stock cubes mixed with alcohol. After a while some sweet malt tones poke through.
Lots of rich caramel, apple, fig and sherry flavours, with a glowing spicey alcohol finish.
I’m tempted to take away a point or two for the bottle label, which looks like it was designed by a fifth grade art student in the early 80s, but fortunately the beer inside the bottle is a hell of a lot more attractive. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

Sweet caramel malt, dried fruit, and aromatic hops (floral and pine) on the nose. Some malt, a sweet sherry note, maple syrup and wet wood. Pours rich, dark copper. Flavor is rich, malty, fruity, spicy and dry with lots of hops. Medium to full bodied. Not as rich and mouth coating as I like in my barleywines. Finishes with a blast of spicy hops. golubj (1301), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Draft at the Blind Tiger. Aroma of some malt, fruit, and some pepper. The flavor is very much like lychee, the chinese fruit (which is sweet but a little peppery), and some caramel malt. It is pretty good and fruity overall for a barleywine. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA

From the smell it seemed like was going to be strong. Surprisingly it wasn’t like bad. It started off citrusy and had the alcohol finish. Not bad. mar (1981), Dallas, Texas, USA

Toffee and brown sugar aromas with just a hint of grapefruit. Rich, malty flavor; sweet brown sugar, molasses, and very little hop bitterness. A good barleywine but I prefer mine on the hoppier side.
