COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Very good barley wine, not a strong alcohol taste. I drank it at about 60F so the taste was wonderful

Bottle. Pours clear copper golden with creamy half finger beige head. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar, malts and lot of dried fruits(raisins). Subtle fresh hops. Some port notes. Taste is medium sweet for the style, malts, burnt sugar and dark fruits. Finish has some fresh dry hoppy bitterness. Medium body and some booze. Warming.

330ml bottle served in a tulip glass. A: Pours a beautiful deep clear amber color forming a small yellow head. Low retention and only few lacings left S: Sweet and fruity in the nose. Toffee and caramel. Dark fruits. Raisins mainly. End is composed of flowery American hops T: Sweet as a barley wine should be. Fruity too. Toffee. Caramel malts backbone. End is bitter hoppyness. Not much of alcohol can be felt given the high ABV. Warming beer. Molasses M: Full creamy molasses body. Low carbonation. Sweet upfront and a hoppy bitter aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Good quality Brooklyn beer [ BA Review @ 8/15/2012 ]

Smells super freaking boozy. Looks like dark caramel. Tastes super boozy but manageable since this is 4 years old. Not bad, though. Thanks, Adam.

"barleywine is like pizza - a so so one is still a good beer, and that’s what happened here. very fruity (good) but rather lacking in complexity and hops (bad). pretty reddish in color (good) but thin for a bw. 2009 bottle a slight disappointment."

12 fl. oz. bottle, 2012, from Bierzwerg. A dark amber in the glass, nearly no head. Alcohol and dark fruity wood on the nose. Starts smooth, dark fruity, heavy cookie sweetness, malt, alcoholic warming. Hop and bitterness in the second row. Nearly no carbonation.

From a bottle recently purchased. Pours hazy reddish copper with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like very dry raisin, astringent alcohol, earthy, a little nutty, cracker malt. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like alcohol, dried fruit, earth.

Pours a hazy amber with light white head. Has a strong dark fruit and caramel. A very thick and syrup-y beer with raisins, other dark fruits, malts, caramel, and high alcohol. A fruity malt aftertaste.
