Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

07 bottle from lb4lb, thanks Deniz. Poured a deep tawny caramel color with a thick off-white head that receded slowly. Aroma of Sweet caramel malt, toffee, and some light citrus notes and hops peaking through. Light, moderately bitter entry with some toffee that leads into a sharp, lightly bitter hop hit that includes some soft citrus such as apricot and light orange. Finishes with some light caramel notes and slight dry. Thanks again Deniz.

12oz, it surprise me I haven’t rated this. This bottle is from 2005, and I needed something small to the end the night as my stomach is telling me its time to slow down on the eating and drinking for the evening. Pours orange with a tan head. Nose is sweet with a touch of lemon rinds. Mouthfeel is prickly on the tongue. Taste is rich with hints of dark fruits and faded hops that once provided more than the bitterness thats left in tihs. Not bad.

Bottle from 2006. dark amber pour, looks like a bitter. Aroma of alcohol, brandy, cherries, caramel malt, and a touch of hops. The flavor of booze hits you right in the face, then comes some more of those sweet cherry/brandy flavors. Finished semi bitter, and a touch sweet. Meh, not a big fan of this, i was expecting more of an american barley wine, but looks like i got an english barley wine with too much booze.

Bottle: Pours a nice amber with no head and very little lacing [snifter is the way to go!]. The smell is a subtle blend of sherry and molasses. There is a sweet scent with a prevalent alcohol nose. My first sip washed my tongue in a sweet cereal goodness with hardly any notice to the strength of the alcohol. It finishes with a nice bready aftertaste that makes you want more. This is a dangerously drinkable beer for something with over 10% ABV so be warned! I would pretty much kill to try this on tap. This is a very strong offering and a purchase I will be making again!

Bottle. Served in a wine glass. Thin head. Amber/brown color. The smell is hoppy with dried fruits (raisins). Hops and sweetnes (too sweet) dominates the flavor. Not as good as i remembered it...

bottle. Pours a light brown with a small, dissipating head. Smells like cotton candy, vanilla shaved ice, bubble gum and malt. Interesting. Initial flavor is actually quite woody and malty. I tasted some nutty flavors along with a fairly intense sweetness from caramel malt. This transitions abruptly into an alcoholic drink with some candied fruit and sugar. These flavors come on a bit suddenly, though not altogether offensive. Finishes full bodied and mouth coating, with a noticeable alcoholic warmth going down your throat. Good for cold winter days, but my impression is that this beer is too young, and inadequately balanced for the ABV.
