Pours dark brown with a large light head. Malty aroma--brown sugar, caramel. Flavor is more of the same. Not much to it, but a great drinkin’ beer.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle into tulip glass. Thanks to Jeff Connor for shipping this to the Midwest. Very malty aroma right out of the bottle, reminiscent of banana bread and lemon frosting on white cake, but a little skunky and yeasty (in a not-so-good way). Looks: nothing wrong here. Glowing red-orange transluscence with just enough haze to obscure transparancy; visible carbonation; taupe head was moderate, diminishing to a dusting and tracing around the edge. Lacing and "racing" are superb. Acrid flavor brings down the score; the hops are metalic and flat, buffered in a natty acidity that attacks the middle of the tounge, not the glands underneath and on the side. It feels wrong, like noticing a hot girl is only 16. This is the equivalent of a quartet composed of three sopranos (one of whom, named Acridity, is off key) and a tenor: no bass grounding it. It’s not that it’s simple and uncomplex, but everything seems like it’s on the same register. The tastes of currant, raisin, and hay blend really well on the long finish, but initially they can’t break through the dominant acridity. On the mouthfeel, it’s a tad watery, but the carbonation is at a nice level, and as I said, the finish was comendable. If it were a bit smoother, this would be very enjoyable.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle courtesy of BuckNaked as a "throw in". Darker amber color with beige head that fades to film quickly. Aroma is sweet malt but rather weak. Sweet malt flavor with some roasted nutty character to it. Wasn’t bad just lacking, every category could use some more umphh.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 3, 2005 (12 oz bottle, obtained in trade with shadey, thanks Shane!) Well, this certainly pours a nice looking beer. Dark amber in color, topped with half an inch of off-white head. But that may be the high point. The aroma is quite woody and moderately malty, but also fairly dry. The woodiness of the nose carries through into the flavor, which is also dominated by a woody, malty character. But hey, whereas most American beers in this style are sugary sweet, this one boldly stays on the drier side, with only a mild sweetness by comparison. The sweetness seems to be most prevalent in the finish. Medium bodied. Mildly bitter, so hops contribution is small, as expected. The head subsides to a small rim around the glass, and leaves virtually no lacing. Strikes me as an unusual, but ultimately just an average tasting Oktoberfest.

bottle. I’ve had quite a few oktoberfests and this one was very different from any other that i’ve had. Poured a deep orange color with almost no head. Had kind of a nasty smell but had decent flavor. Fairly full-bodied. Defienate orange and grapefruit tastes throughout the beer. My least favorite of the Brooklyn Brewing Co. beers.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark amber color with virtually no head. The aroma is a nice mix of malt, caramel, and a roasted nuttiness. Light bodied with a watery texture. Solid mix of flavors that include malt, caramel, nuts, toast, and a mild flavoring of fruit, more specifically apples and raisins. It’s all about the malt in this one, and it’s good.
