Brooklyn Oktoberfest was introduced in 2000. It is true to the original German style, full-bodied and malty, with a bready aroma and light, brisk hop bitterness. When Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria wanted to celebrate his wedding engagement in 1810, he did what any good Bavarian prince would--he threw a beer festival. Bothe the festival and the special beer served there became known as Oktoberfest. Brewed from the finest German malt and hops, Brooklyn Oktoberfest is true to the original style, fullbodied and malty, with a bready aroma and light, brisk hop bitterness.

Bottle sample at a beer festival in kibbutz Ma’abarot, May ’08. Clear amber with a medium, quickly-diminishing beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, some caramel, light fruitiness and hoppy hints. Sweetish malty flavor, rather toasty, with nutty hints and a pretty bitter finish with nice hoppiness. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

This beer pours a completely transparent amber/orange color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Malty nose with touches of caramel and fruit. Medium-bodied and sweet with flavors of caramel malt, grain and bits of cinnamon. The finish is malty with a touch of hops bitterness in the aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12 oz brown bottle, best before FEB 2011. One of the first Oktoberfests out on the shelves. It pours a dark orangeish brown, on the more orangey/dark end of the Oktoberfest spectrum. The head is big and white and it recedes press slowly, but without much lacing. The smell is interesting here. There is a subtle smokiness almost to it. Along with some nuttiness, caramel, and hops. It also had a nice blast of fresh dough. The taste is pretty decent too. It is doughy with a slight bit of hops and it has a nice subtle fruitiness to it. There is a hint of penny flavor but not enough to make it bad and it goes away after the first few sips. It is pretty good oktoberfest material, especially for an American brewer, a decent brew, a good one to drink if you see it before the other stuff comes out. This has been almost my 30th or so Oktoberfest I’ve tried and it just cements my affection for the style. Some hop and carbonation. Malty and carmel finish. Light mouthfeel. amber colour and a little off-white head.Dry slightly astringent aftertaste. Certainly not the best representative of this style I have had. Just boring and nothing special.

Bottle from Utobeer. Plain malty beer with a rocky, slightly yellow head over an orange-brown body. Fugacious foam. Bready malts to the nose followed by a taste of herbs, wet forest and suggestions of earthy malts. Rather strange flavour and a bit vapid (Tromsø, 10.05.2008).

Damn this is a pretty nasty verion of an oktoberfest. Amber pour. Very grainy and malty aroma...flavor reminds me of a bad dark lager. Macro flavors...skunk, caramel malt and sorry hops. Man I really didn’t like this.

Bottle. Sweet corn grain aroma. Dark amber with large head. Molasses, barley malt and moderate hops flavor. Pretty high hops for the style.
