COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Pilsner is a refreshing golden lager beer, brewed in the style favored by New York’s pre-Prohibition brewers. In the 1840’s, the pilsner style emerged from central Europe to become the world’s most popular style of beer. Like its ancesters, Brooklyn Pilsner is traditionally brewed from the finest European two-row barley malts. German-grown Perle and Hallertauer hops provide a crisp, snappy bitterness and fresh, floral aroma. We ferment Brooklyn Pilsner at cool temperatures and then give it a long, gentle maturation (lagering), which results in a beer of superior complexity and smoothness.

Cloudy golden pour with surprisingly little aroma for a true pilsner. This is certainly very bitter but otherwise skunky. Maybe I got a bad bottle...it’s a drain pour.

Aroma of lemon and honey. Color is golden with a white head with some delicate lacing. Crisp bright flavor with faint bitterness.

Bottle: pint glass: Pours a light golden/ yellow, high bubble count settling into 1 finger of white head. The aroma is clearly of hops, also some citrus, maybe florals. The taste is immediately dry yet complex... the hops come to the front, nice deep taste though... followed my a sugary yeast, all washed away by the medium to hig hcarbonation. Nice brew, very refreshing.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2011 Location: Updating this rating with a 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 5/8/11

Aroma: Packed with fresh German hops, grass, fruit, earth, and hay. Fades quickly though, so soak in the nose as soon as you open it. I would have gone 8 initially, but it fades to a 6 so I settled on a 7.
Appearance: The pour is a crystal clear light orange color with a smallish white head
Flavor: Similar to the nose, but with more hay, and lacking that crisp hoppy pilsner bite
Palate: The body is fairly clean and crisp, carbonation is a bit too lively, with a dry, fading finish
Overall Impression: I decided this one could use a re-rate since the old rating was pretty weak in the details department. Anyway, this one starts off pretty nice with a good, fresh aroma. Unfortunately, that nose fades fairly quickly. The taste is not quite as nice as the nose, with similar components, but lacking that crisp hoppy bite I look for in a great pilsner. Still a solid offering though, and my previous score was too low. This one could have been higher, but it just has a couple of flaws that held it back.

Original rating from 7/21/09:
Overall Impression: Pretty decent pils, crisp, clean, refreshing. Not overly interesting or exciting, but solid none the less. (6/3/6/3/12)

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The bottle has a best before date. Appearance: The body has a bright golden color with very good clarity and some nice streams of fine carbonation rushing to the head. The head builds up tall and fluffy. It is bright white in color, has good retention and makes some lacing on the glass. Smell: Its aroma has a light biscuity malt presence with some floral hops. Taste/Mouth Feel: The flavor is very clean, crisp and very well balanced. A subtle biscuity malt mixes with a mild floral and almost fruity hops. The hops bring a pleasant bitterness and dry crispness to the finish. It has a smooth light texture with just enough carbonation to match its light to medium body. Notes: This is a very clean and highly drinkable Pilsner and it is great on a hot summer day.

Aroma is noble hops, grass, flowers, bread. The appearance is very true to the style, straw yellow, tinge of orange, white head, lots of carbonation bubbles. The flavor is crisp, floral hops, grass, malts, bread dough. Surprisingly good. The finish is dry, lingering pilsener hops. Medium mouthfeel, a little creamy, unusual for a pils. This is not my favorite style, but Brooklyn has done a decent job here.

Thanks JoeMcPhee. Very pale straw gold, abundant off-white head that leaves a rich lacing down the glass. Aroma has abundant noble hop character complemented by a slight yeastiness. First impression on the tongue is a dry, very bready malt backbone well accompanied by grassy hops flavor. Slightly sweet, very doughy. In the finish and linger the dry character subsides and more sweet dough emerges. Medium bodied, smooth, sudsy palate.
