corby112 (2214) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 2, 2009
Pours a dark golden orange/amber color with lighter golden burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a massive three finger creamy, pillowy white head with excellent retention, only slowly fading into a large lasting cap that coats the glass with chunks of soapy lacing. Slightly spicy aroma with lots of bready yeast and crisp light fruit notes. Slight alcohol and spice presence. Lighter end of medium body with some zesty spice up front followed by some estery crisp light fruit, especially apricot, apple, pear and grape. Slight alcohol sweetness but no warmth making it pretty quaffable. Subtle hops and slight biscuit malt provide nice balance with a slight dry finish.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
glennmastrange (2205) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - FEB 21, 2009
Tap. Moderate malt aromas of light bread, cereal, toasted and caramel, light perfume and dough for the hops and yeast, with notes of red wine, honey and a fruity hint in the background. Head is creamy, white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy orange/brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, and is moderately sweet and lightly bitter in the finish. Palate is medium, oily and has a soft carbonation. It finishes lightly alcoholic. Well balanced, this Biere de Garde has all the necessary elements to call it an exceptional beer.

Draft at MacGregor’s. Light orange, creamy looking head. Nice carbonated mouthfeel. Interesting spicy aroma. More of the same in the palate. The alcohol is a bit present in the palate but masked well. I’d like to try this again. This was very good.

Sparky (2133) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - DEC 3, 2008
Sampled at Big Pour Mesa. Poured a medium amber with an off-white head. Nose is floral hops and spice. Taste is pretty much the same. Medium, mouth feel. OK brew.

Draft at Rattle n Hum. Some skank in the aroma, unfortunately. Flavor is sweet and malty, with touches of whiskey and grapes. Pleasantly fizzy on the palate. My first biere de garde. Interesting brew.

Enjoyed on tap at Bar Great Harry. Pour was brown/ruby. Nice lace work. A little darker than I was expecting from a Biere De Garde. Grains, alcohol, and light yeast

on tap at the gingerman poured a bright amber and has a nice one finger off white head. aroma has some grains, sweetness, hop spice, and fruit. mouth feel is medium and carbonation low. flavor has a nice complementing malted body and candy sugar thing. hops contribute spices and bitterness and there is a little pollen and pitted fruits. the style I have come to like, and this one has lots of interest stops along the drinking journey.

on tap at the gingerman. light copper body with a fast fading white head. Seemed a little on the sweet side for my liking. Caramel-like malts seemed to hide any wheat or earthy notes i like wth this style. carbonation was modrate.

On tap at Redlight Redlight. Pours a fairly clear copper amber color with a large, frothy light vanilla colored head. Smells of big banana, clove, wheat, and a little funk. Definitely had some wheat beer characters going on in the nose. The flavor was very creamy, little vanilla, banana, and dark caramel malts. A little sweet, but drinks pretty nice and goes down easy. Nice little treat to be able to try this one.
