Scorcher is a golden light-bodied ale carrying a big stick of bitterness and big American hop aroma.

EDITOR’S NOTE:This is not the same version that became available at Scorcher #366 in 2013. That is a different beer, please add ratings to that beer.

Tap at Blind Tiger Ale House. Golden colored with a fluffy quickly dissipating head. Citrus in taste, but also quite hoppy. Nothing really special. It seems like flavor-wise it’s in limbo, wanting to be something special but not quite making it. The spices and flavors are not really working together right and I just can’t put my finger on what’s making this beer not full of potential like what we would expect from Brooklyn. I don’t know what to say about this except that if I had to choose between the Scorcher and any other Brooklyn beer, I would chose any other Brooklyn beer.

Growler. Pours a mostly clear gold with a very thin soapy white head that was gone after the first sip and left no lace. Pleasant aroma of lemon with a few floral notes as well. The flavor is weak malt followed by some mildly bitter citrus hops. Generally weak overall. Light bodied. So so.

On tap at 2SP. Pours a clear golden color with one finger frothy white head. Aroma of lightly toasted malt and lemony citrus. Taste is nice bitter tropical fruits with some grapefruit rind. Floral hops near the finish with some sweet malts. Light body and high carbonation.

Golden ale with a thin white head. Nice floral hops in aroma with nice caramel malts. Good lightly sweet malt with notes of lemon and honey and good residual honey hops. Medium bodied. On tap at Clark’s Ale House, Summer 2005.

Fresh, lively, floral, citrus, earthy, hop forward aroma. Clear golden body with a generous and lasting white head that laces well. Citrus, floral and earthy hops over a light, crisp toasted malt base. Medium body with refreshing crisp carbonation. Sampled from a 12oz growler with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere at the service area off I87N in Glenns Falls, NY.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2008 [draft at MacGregor’s - Henrietta, NY] Gold color with a fizzy white head. Aroma is very hoppy and peppery. Definitely smelled more like an IPA. The taste began with a very hoppy sensation, but quickly disappeared and left no aftertaste. Very strange, but very drinkable.

Growler, Half Time N .Y., Septembre 2005.

Draft at the Drafting Room, Exton. Pours gold with a medium white head. I got aromas of hops and pale malt in this, with the same flavors. Not terribly exciting, but not bad on a summer day.

On tap at Mahar’s in Albany. Very light, looked like a macro lager. Had a mild hop flavor, very mild and slight hop aroma, but overall bland.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2005 Had this one on tap at the brewery. Just plain nasty. Imagine if you took seltzer water put a buttload of aroma hops in it, and added a splash of their pilsener for color. That’s right...you get this! People are going to say this is decent because 1. its Brooklyn and they are a solid brewery and 2. it DOES have a nice hoppy aroma and presence, but without any kind a malt backing this is an empty victory. Extremely thin and spritzy, it was like and overhopped pilsener without the biscuity character that makes a good pilsener worth drinking.
