The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.

Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a deep golden with a small white head. Aromas of citrus, bread malts, sweet caramel and pine resin. Taste is a citrus hop bitterness with bready and caramel malt tones. Very easy on the palate. Just wanna keep drinking this. 9% hidden very well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours amber, slightly brownish tinted with a healthy white head. Super slight haze. Nose shows rich caramel, surprising fruit notes (roasted peach, toffee, sweet plum). A bit more hops than expected. Not what I would have thought of for a doppelbock, but in a good way. Unique, and much better than expected. Rad label, too.

From bottle - pours a clear amber/orange color with a bone-colored head (it has been re-fermented in bottle so pour very carefully). Aromas: smells a bit resiny/pine on top with a bit of dough underneath. Medium carbonation, but the bubbles taste very small on the tongue, a bit sweetness and malty. Medium body with a smooth profile on the tongue. Finish is a nice mixture of malt and bitterness. Very refreshing, but hearty.

Bottle. Moderate malt notes of roasted and caramel, light to moderate herbs and pine for eh hops, light dough for the yeast, with hints of dark dried fruit and faint spice. Head is large, frothy turning creamy, with thick chunky lacing and is fully lasting. Color is sparkling clear but murky on the last pour, dark amber. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a carbonation between lively and fizzy. Not quite a true Doppelbock in my veiw, a little too hoppy and bitter, but still a very well rounded beer.

5/23/13. On tap at The Distillery. Amber red pour with a nice small khaki head. Nice hop character on the aroma with citrus, deep complexity, and plenty of caramel. Bready, malty flavor with caramel, some nice hop character, and nice balance. So glad this isn’t absurdly sweet. Really good - surprised, actually.

From notes: Poured slightly hazy orange-amber with a 4-finger bone-colored head. Aroma of grapefruit hops mixed with a light note of toffee. Body is medium and slightly oily, with a touch of astringency in the finish. Flavor of grapefruit hops and a touch of yeast. Caramelly malt notes as it warms.
