The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.

Draft at craft ale house. Pours murky brown with a large tan head. The aroma has nuts, cocoa, fruity esters, brown sugar. The taste is light, nutty, some hazelnut, some spice, dry finish.

$5 for the pour at Positive Pie, the Montpelier location. To tulip, it pours a clear rusty Rufous color with a largish off-white head two to three fingers in length. Tastes and smells of caramelized onions, Carahell malts, and cracked wheat. Okay. Not in love.

Thanks, Abbie! Nice deep copper pour with lively carbonation, slightly dusty look to it as it settles. Nose is quite fragrant, with unexpected bitter hops along with a rich doppelbock malt base. Lively mouthfeel suits the brightness of the beer. There’s even a hint of fruit in there to go along with the complexity of this hoppy, non-traditional doppel.

Sample at the HSC July 4th beer tasting. The beer is a slightly hazy dark amber color with a medium thick off-white head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing. Hops and earthy malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, hops and ripe fruit. The finish is malty with an earthy and fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottled. Pours amber brown with white head. Doesn’t lace. Smell of alittle alcohol, fruit and citrus. Taste of hops, citrus, plum, grapefruit.

Poured a clear medium brown color with a beige head. Aroma had a nice caramel malt presence upfront. There was a mix of toffee notes, candied sugar and a slight hint of citrus hops. Flavor had mostly sweet flavors. Caramel malts were great there was a nice added sweetness from the candied sugar flavors. There was just enough bite from the hops and alcohol to keep this beer from being cloying. Carbonation seemed a little high. There was a little bit of nice sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

Bottle share. Clear amber. Aroma of spices, toffee, tart fruit. Taste is a thin mix of darkish fruit toffee, and stuff. Dry finish.

Clear amber color with a lasting off white head. Fruity nose with some alcohol notes. Lots of bready malts with fruity apple, orange and some grapefruit in the finish. Nice big alcohol sensation.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2014 Large bottle from Central City Liquor Store in North Surrey. Not very experienced with doppelbock, but I like this. Lighter in color than I’d have thought. Fruit on the nose. Fruit and yeast in the mouth. Goes down easy. Nice!

And more recently at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. Impressions are about the same.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Jack. Hazy amber beer, residual pale tan head. Softish and creamy palate, airy. Mellow creamy malt with equally mellow marmalade hops. Trace of pine. Finishes soft and airy.
