3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Nose of sweet malts, fruit, with suggestions of orange citrus. Pours a moderately clear copper with a foamy, mostly diminishing, ivory head and minimal lacing. The taste, while malt forward, has an unexpected crispness in the finish. Malts, citrus fruit, with a crisp dry fizzy finish. A hint of alcohaol warmth in the aftertaste. Medium-light body with high fizzy carbonation. Overall, quit refreshing. I would have liked a little fuller body, but still an enjoyable beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Taster on tap at the Moerlein Lager House. Clear amber color. Thin khaki head. Couple bits of lace. Doughy, bready aroma. Light hint of spiciness and caramel malt. Lightly toasty. Medium to bigger body. Kind of crisp, lighter carbonation, with a dry finish. More sweet taste, lighter bitter. Interesting doppelbock. Rich, complex malt profile to it.

On draught, nice balance of caramel, biscuit and toffee malts and crisp bitterness to finish. Hides the abv well and tastes like a solid lager. Good, but nothing special.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught@Brooklyn Brewery. Rich, slightly sweet, hoppy aroma. Smooth flavor with a slightly burning alcohol finish. Full body, medium carbonation. Quite good despite the high ABV.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft to pint. Looks good; a mostly transparent copper with off-white lacing. Smells malty with notes of toffee and caramel. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. An enjoyable dopplebock.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: A nourishing amber lager. Unmemorable.
How: Tap at Tap-NY festival 2013.
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a medium beige head.
In long: Nose is sweet cereals, a bit fruity, a bit of caramel, a bit of honey, light phenolic notes. In mouth the beer feels big, a full body with expansive carbonation and doughy texture. Taste is nourishing doughy cookies, honey, a mix-bag of fruits, some caramel, mineral water, not much hops to talk about. Drinkability is probably pretty low and I didn’t like my glass to test the drinkability on a full bottle. A not-so-great beer from Brooklyn to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and it makes me feel very old to think I’ve probably been drinking beer for that long, getting older is not fun but I still prefer getting older to the alternative.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/17/2013. Pours lightly hazy orange copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, orange zest, grapefruit, pear, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, pepper, floral, grass, pine, light nuttiness, and floral/yeast earthiness. Very nice and unique aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, orange zest, grapefruit, pear, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, pepper, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, citrus, pear, floral, toast, brown sugar, light pine, brown bread, grass, and floral/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice and unique doppelbock style. All around nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the alcohol level. A very enjoyable offering.
