The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.

Sample at Systembolaget tasting. Light citrusy smell, fresh. Similar taste. Feels a bit ordinary, doesn’t stand out in a particular way.

Fruchtiger, hell malziger Antrunk. Mit der Zeit hopfiger und insgesamt intensiver werdend. Leichte Karamellnoten, wenig alkoholisch, was ins Gesamtbild passt. Hopfiger Ausklang. 12/11/12/11/9/12

Slightly cloudy with a small, persistent head. Nondescript aroma, sharp and somewhat overcarbonated palate. Taste is surprisingly thin and has neither the sweetness of a bock, nor the aromatic hops of a pale ale. Overpriced and disappointing considering Brooklyns track record.

From the corked caged 750 ml. bottle no. 0323A. The pour is a decently carbonated, heady orange amber. The aroma is of malts and a touch of booze but not overpowering. The body is medium to bold. Great toasted malt flavor with a lingering low to moderately bitter finish. Very nice but it was $17.00.

Comes in a beautiful bottle, corked and caged. It pours a nice amber color, just hazy, with medium sized head, a thin layer of which is kept by a persistent perlage; it seems a bit overcarbonated indeed. Some aroma of stale beer, metallic, light esters. Smooth and dry mouthfel; it has some boring caramel flavor, traces of vegetables from the fermentation, ordinary bitterness, and light metallic impression in the end; also some chicory bitterness.
Not even close to a Doppelbock, and not good in any case.

Cloudy amber with a frothy white head. Sweet and somewhat fruity aroma, notes of honey. Malty taste, slightly bitter and kind of sugary. Short aftertaste but leaves some sort of sediment. Was hoping for an amped up Brooklyn Lager but this was kind of weak sauce. Still pretty good, but I think I prefer the original.

Bottle, shared with Rockley. Copper-penny body, hazy, lively off white head that leaves thick sheets of lace. Aroma is light orchard fruits, bread. Fruity yeast character prevails over malt here, with a touch of metal in the finish. I prefer a hardier, toastier, maltier profile in my doppelbocks, but this was still a tasty beverage.

750ml brown bottle with a stylish label with pictures of mushrooms. Pours hazy dark brown amber with a medium sized brownish thick beige head, that leaves a long lasting creamy lacing. Aroma of butterscotch, raisins and rye bread. Taste of butterscotch, rye bread, raisins and a hint of spices and alcohol. Somewhat bitter with a slight sweetness. Carbonation is average-high, medium body with a thick texture. I should have stored this beer longer, because I like the appearance of the bottle more than the taste of the beer. Overall a good beer, somewhat unconventional and expensive for a Doppelbock.
